An introduction from the Narrator

The story of the Mage of Arrows, Jex Cahill. Excuse me if I make manga references [1]. Which reminds me, if ever I have anything important to tell you out of character, I'll be having footnotes like this [2] Every now and then. Just scroll down to the bottom of the post to find out what I wanted to tell you. In this story, we follow the steps of the Mage from the Magic World [3] travel through the place known as Earth. But that's not what we're here for. We're here to find out how he got himself into the organization known as ChaoZ. What is ChaoZ? Well, if you're reading this, I'm pretty sure you should have a good idea of what it already is [4].

Anyways, follow the composed Leader of the Path of Chaotic Good as he battles his way into the land of Lore, where the clan sits in wait. Watch him fight Dragons, Hell Hounds, The occasional Vandel [5], some frogs, large bugs, and any old rivals from the past. But let's not forget his blunders and mishaps. Especially the ones that include trying to capture females [6]. But enough of that, let's start off our story the way the best of tales are usually begun...

Once upon a time...

-----

[1] By manga references, I will probably only use "Naruto", "The World God Only Knows", and "Mahou Sensei Negima" (Magic Teacher Negima). Will sometimes use "Full Metal Alchemist" as a basis of Alchemy and "Beet the Vandel Buster" for the basis of the Vandels (Who will be explained about later on).

[2] Oh, good. If you're reading this, it means I haven't wasted my time making these tiny little footnotes. Some people, believe it or not, discard these tiny boxes of information, no matter how clueless they are of what is happening in the story. But don't worry, I won't bore you to death. After all, I have won footnoter of the year 3 years straight. Also, beware the use of my sarcasm.

[3] Not to be confused with the Magical World where the princesses and princes of Disney land come to life. Where the fairies that steal teeth from children and give them money in exchange. Where 'love' is the answer to everything. Ugh. What a waste of universal ink.

[4] But just in case you don't, the summary of ChaoZ can be found on the home page, I believe. If you're too lazy to go there, as I am, then ChaoZ is a group that has been working under the command of Kenichi DaPuppy. Look him up. ChaoZ has been fighting Chaos for quite a while now... I think. The original members, or the founders, of ChaoZ was, of course, Kenichi DaPuppy, S.C.O.T.T. the forgotten (Scientific Computer Operated Technology -T series 74797), Endopker the Ebil, and Riaden the swift.

[5] A Vandel is what you would call a "mistake". Created by Drakath to be Lords of Chaos but failed attempts because of their lack of... Lack of lack of mercy. The Vandels work among each other and have crystals on their forearms that measure their "level". Vandels are usually level 1s and 2s. But even those can be as strong as a level 25 dragon. Beware the 5-star Vandels, Mariana and Mouna Lowa.

[6] You'd think someone who can make fire balls out of thin air would be a babe magnet, but since he's not allowed to expose magic to the real world, which is only now discovering the basics of it, he's just like any normal vagabond. A hobo, if you may.

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Foreplay... I mean "Epilogue"!

Post  Jex Cahill Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:08 pm

Before the scholar of Magic

Jexal Chronus [7]. That was his given name. He didn't like it much but his parents insisted he kept it. "Jex" walked through the crowds, ducking and weaving, barely touching anybody as he moved so smoothly. Suddenly, his phone started ringing [8]. It was set on vibrate but it distracted him just enough that he almost slipped and fell... If it weren't for a towering man right behind him. "Hey, watch it." Cheston Dallair (Pronounced: Da - la - ir.) said in a booming voice. Cheston was the local bully. And Jexal was the local geek [9]. Dallair was 2 years older than everyone in his grade, Jexal's grade. This was because he was held back a lot of times for his disobedience and failing marks. Jexal was just about to say sorry when Cheston picked him up and put him in the air with one hand. Cheston was strong but you wouldn't need much upper-body strength to carry the rather scrawny Chronus. Dallair pulled back his other hand, balled in a fist, ready to release. Jexal raised his hands in defense. As if he was controlled by some outside force, Chronus suddenly had thoughts rushing through his mind. He wasn't going to let Dallair get last laugh. He was tired of all this. He wanted to fight back. By this time, he had already come up of 10 ways to escape from Dallair's grasp. He quickly chose the fastest one right before Dallair launched his fist at him. He got into an awkward position, switching his center balance. This single movement made Dallair miss and lose his grip. Cheston twisted and sent a high kick up at Jexal. Despite his large stature, it was fast and trained, since he was being tutored in hand-to-hand combat. A subject Jexal himself excels in. Chronus ducked quickly and saw the opening. Because Dallair had longer legs, he would need more time to complete a full rotation and get into balance. In his final blow, as Jexal pushed himself up, to hit the back of Dallair's head, he tripped on his own shoelace and fell face-first to the ground.

The next thing Jexal knew, he was upturned on a bed. He was in the school infirmary. It seemed that it wasn't Dallair that got him, but his laces... Well, at least he didn't get hurt by Cheston. He looked up at the clock to find out he had been down for almost the whole school day. A nurse went in and told him he was free to go as long as he took it easy. Her name was Anika Nikolova. A foreigner. She was really nice to Jexal and always protected him whenever she saw him getting picked on by Dallair. Unlike the other teachers that pretend they didn't see a thing.
Jexal smiled and nodded at her as he walked out of the infirmary to his last class... Physical Education. He grieved. Why didn't he just stay in the infirmary? But he knew he had to at least be there everyday to pass the class. He needed to pass the class. He ran in the boy's changeroom, double checking that it wasn't the girl's, changed clothes, and ran out to the gym. Just in time when the instructor called out his name, "Jexal Chronus?" Mr. Barnabay had shouted. He had poor hearing but the man had a heart like a bull. He could probably run this gym a hundred times before he would break a sweat. "Here." Chronus panted. Everyone turned to look at him but only one pair of eyes met his. Cheston Dallair. He could see fury behind his dark blue eyes. Jexal knew what he was looking for now. A fight. After school. In the courtyard, where there are usually aren't any teachers around. He nodded. He wanted this fight, too. It was his proving point. He was holding back earlier [10].

Gym class went by pretty fast since all they did was fitness training. Jexal quickly got dressed and ran out to his locker. He grabbed his backpack and ran to the courtyard. It was empty. Spooky. The courtyard was rather large. He could still see some splatters of blood from Dallair's last victim. He quickly realized what he had gotten himself into. Sure he was smart. Sure he could finish the magic examination in less than a minute and perfect it. But that was all written. The only time he had actually used magic was during the demonstration part of the examination before he went to the Cahill University [11]. In terms of experience, he was at a dead zero. He trembled but when he looked up, he stood his ground. Cheston came out of the school, along with a few other people... Some spectators, the others a part of his posse. Cheston cracked his knuckles. The fight begun.

At first, it was basically just Cheston throwing punches and kicks with Jexal getting quick dodges and lucky misses. Jexal was getting tired fast, but so was Dallair. Before Chronus could react Dallair had fired a ball of fire straight at him. Jexal barely had any time to lift his hands up so that a magic shield he had summoned would block it. He was sent flying back by the explosion of the ball on contact. He fell on his back, shield on top of him. He could hear footsteps pounding straight at him. Dallair. He was about to drop kick him. The shield was oblivious to physical attacks. Jexal went into shock. What now? He saw Dallair jump up, boosted by magic. He dropped fast, Jexal coudn't move. Just then, everything went white. And the next thing Jexal felt was a warm sensation flowing through his body and exiting through his chest... Nothing. No impact. No pain. Nothing. He wasn't dead. He could still feel the damp grass beneath him. He opened his eyes, which he didn't even know were closed and looked up. Dallair was on the ground, squirming. An arrow of light pierced his shoulder. It wasn't a bad wound but the bleeding would kill him. Jexal scattered on the ground and the arrow disappeared, making even more blood gush out. It was horrible. The sight of it. But that wasn't the bad part. The bad part was that Chronus had done it himself. He did not like the guilt eating him from inside. He could only think of one thing to do...

He ran. Away from the school. He needed to go back, he knew that. He would. It wasn't the school he was running away from. It was Dallair. He knew that he would be back. For revenge. And that he was going to do much much worse.

-----

[7] Jexal Chronus, as is said in the story, is his original name. I know. Too flashy. I didn't know what else to call the man. It was standard to be named like this in the World of Magic... I think.

[8] Just saying, I don't care if this is the Magic World or not. They need their forms of communication, too. Other than telepathy, which not everybody is gifted, or trained, with.

[9] I'm not sure if everyone had noticed, but geeks and bullies don't mix.

[10] This was the truth. The use of magic without consent of the teachers was prohibited. It was bad enough that he was getting into a fight. He didn't want to get in more trouble by zapping Dallair in the chest with a lightning bolt.

[11] Cahill University was founded exactly 996 years ago. This was right after the war of Eyron. In which the city of Megus, to the east, waged war against the city to the west, Vorsemaid. The Capital was caught in the crossfire and was forced to take part in the war. The Capital won, obviously. Megus and Vorsemaid's leaders were assassinated, which caused chaos internally. Rumors say that the name of the assassin was Eyron Cahill. Thus the war being named after him and the city building him a monument.

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Goodbye!

Post  Jex Cahill Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:19 am

Graduate, young Scholar!

"Jexal Chronus!" Claudia Templeton boomed through the Coliseum of Ezra. "I am proud to announce that... You are the Valedictorian of the millennium!" Jexal stepped upwards. His crowning moment. After four years of studying, push-ups, acne, bruises, blisters, and learning combat magic, Jexal has finally graduated. And at the top of his class as well. As he was climbing the tall staircase, the hundreds of people watching the graduation ceremony live cheered. Usually, it would only be the families of the children that graduated who came but this year, since it was to mark the 1000th birthday of the school, everyone was watching. Bands would be performing, artists singing, and groups dancing [12]. He felt amazed. Overwhelmed even. Now 15, he is the youngest ever Valedictorian of the Cahill University. He reached the top and met Claudia's eyes. Claudia is the head of CU. She has been for almost a hundred years. She is an elf, a wise one a that. Wiser that any other. She came from the city of Dylonia from the west. She reached out to shake his hand. Chronus smiled shakily and, with trembling hands, shook the dean's hand. She smiled and whispered, "Be happy, boy. It is your time to shine." He nodded and grinned. As she let go of his hand, she presented him with his diploma. Printed on gold embroidered silk paper. The writing floated right above the paper, infused with magic. He spun to the side and smiled for the roaring crowd. He didn't want this to ever end. He was really on top of the world. And he liked it there. Jexal looked to Claudia. She said, "Now, why don't you show us why you're the at the top, young Chronus!" He looked up at the clear sky, smiling. This was arranged. A man in a white robe came up to him and presented him with a staff. The staff of Velion [13]. Jexal looked up at the dark blue blanket atop the world. And smiled. He pointed the staff up and whispered, "Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!" A ball of light charged up at the head of the staff and shot up to the sky. Ten arrows of light punctured the sky and converged. They exploded on contact and scattered like pretty fireworks. The crowd cheered, standing up as an ovation. He felt exhilarated. The crowd cheered for him to do it again so he did. And again. And again...

The ceremony lasted quite longer than everyone expected it would. He was escorted to a room underneath the stage. Anika, the nurse, walked in and smiled at him. He stood up and extended his hand for a handshake but she ran towards him and gave him a hug. It was a surprise to the Mage. She had never done this before. Sure, she was a motherly figure [14] to him. She'd fed him when he ran out of food once. She'd nursed him to health we he got a bad fever. She'd even helped him out with homework before. But he'd never gotten a hug from her even once. He felt the warmth that was emitted from her body. He couldn't help but not to know what to do. She reared back, keeping her hands on his arms. "I'm so proud of you." She said, teary-eyed. He smiled and his body surged forward. He gave her a hug. It felt addicting to him. The warmth, the safety it promised, and the feeling that he wouldn't be alone.

Before he could let go, a white uniformed man came in with Claudia and another guard asked Anika to leave. She said "Goodbye." And smiled back at Jexal before the door slid shut behind her. Jexal waved his hand once but the door was already closed before she could see it. He turned to Claudia, who was now taking a sip of dark red wine from a tall glass. "It's an honor, ma'am." Chronus said politely. Claudia nodded and the guards left the room. Despite her age, she looked very young and strong [15]. "The honor is mine, scholar." She smiled and sat down on the seat behind the table in front of Jexal. She gestured for him to sit and he nodded, bending back to rest. "On to business." Claudia said, "We're shipping you off to the Real world." Jexal froze. "What?" He asked. "We're shipping you off." Claudia answered simply as what she said was normal. In fact, it wasn't. Normally, Mages who were sent to the Real world are above the age of minority and are usually high up in the ranks, politic-wise. But Jexal. He was just 15. He's just another Valedictorian. What made him so special? "Why me?" He asked. "Simple..." She said. There was a pause, as if she was thinking of what to say. Or rather, letting him think of what he thinks she would say. "Your magic arrows. No one has been able to do that. Ever." She said. He shook his head, remembering the book he had read about dead spells [16]. "No. Other people have done it. The last person to do it was..." He paused. "Eyron Cahill." Claudia and Chronus said in unison. No way. Did Claudia actually think he had the blood of the original Cahill? "Now, I know what you're thinking." She had said, "But it doesn't matter. All that matters is that you're the only one who has the ability to do the 'dead' spell. And we need you out there." She looked at him with stern eyes. He looked back, questioningly, "Why do you need me in the Real World." He asked. Her response was fast. "Zephiren's army."

He froze. The last he had heard of 'Zephiren', they had pillaged the whole north-western empire of Schylon. (Pronounced: Sky - lawn) The army was contained in that area by the remaining forces but they seem to have started a new empire in replacement of Schylon. The Zeph Empire (Pronounced: Zeff). He thought for a while, "How did they get there?" He asked. "The northern gate of Ilgard." [17] He grunted... Zephiren is a powerful combat magi who had dreams. He believed his race was dominant and should rule the world and all the other races be killed. He was an Elf. The problem? The other elves believed him. They thought he meant he was just creating a better place for the race to live but what they didn't know was that he was killing off race after race. So far, the Fairies have been driven close to extinction and the werewolves, who pack themselves to the north, has been completely annihilated. Without a single trace left. "When?" Jexal mumbled. Claudia smiled and said, "Right now, if you want." He looked up at her from behind his glasses. "What about my things?" "Packed and ready to go." He wasn't entirely sure but he knew she was right. He was one of the only few people who had a chance at withstanding Zephiren. He nodded and smiled, "Let's go."

-----

[12] Bands in the Magic World? Artists? Dancers? Of course there are. Like any other world, the World of Magic is still seeking for entertainment. But probably with a bit of twist. Such as dancers on fire, singers that only the animals can hear, and bands composed of many different species... Now, I wonder what kind of special booze they have...

[13] Staff of Velion. Also, if you're wondering where I get these names, I get them from the book Elyon. Who's name I got from the book of sarcasm. (Pronounced: Vel - yon)

[14] Important: Jexal's mother and father are unnamed. Why? Well, because Cahill University is a boarding school. Why not kill them off? Too mainstream. I prefer to be more hipster like that.

[15] Point one to the elves.

[16] Dead spells are spells that have been either lost or can no longer be done. This is usually because some spells are special to a certain bloodline or requires too much of a massive amount of mana to initiate. Not to be confused with Forbidden spells that can still be done but can be punished by law if caught doing.

[17] There are but a few gates found in the World of Magic to the World of Science, the 'Real' World. Places can be built to transport between the worlds but cost a lot of mana to create. Mana that is, if uncontrolled, could destroy half of the Magic World. The natural gates, though, do not store much Mana because they use 'Ley lines' that connect the different planes. Ley lines can be used to travel through time and space but causes immense jet lag. Ugh. Just when you thought going green was a good idea.

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Jex Cahill of the World of Science and Jexal Chronus of the World of Magic

Post  Jex Cahill Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:24 am

Conflict of Chronus and Cahill!

Jexal Chronus sat next to Anika Nikolova in the hovercraft. Claudia paced back and forth, talking rapidly to the Scholar about the Scientific World [18]. But it was nothing new to the Magi. He had taken a class on the other world just a year ago, on the 999th year of UC. The World was new, contradicting what their citizen's had said. It had only been there for a few billion years but the World of Magic had been here for trillions. He buried his face in his hands and let out a muffled curse. Anika turned to him, after she stared out the window, amazed by the view from the cloudy sky. She put her hand on Jexal's shoulder. Chronus was hard at thought. "I don't even know anymore." He slammed his hand on the glass table, rattling the empty tea cup on it's porcelain plate. Anika pulled her hand away in shock. Not because he got angry but because of what he did when he got angry. Normally, he wouldn't show emotion when he felt it bubbling up inside him. But... His hand slamming onto the glass was like a complete outburst to her. Plus, his hands were glowing. The last time this had happened was... Was the incident 4 years ago. She had seen all of it happen. From the window to the far left of the courtyard. It was tinted, so that the people outside could not see her inside. She would always watch for Cheston's next victim. The only reason she hadn't stopped them was that she knew that they were just going to find a place far away from there. The bullying wasn't going to stop there. She watched victim after victim. But watching wasn't just because it was the view. She watched because it was easier for her to know what problem the students who were beaten up had. Since sometimes, the victims were too shy to tell her all the casualties. But that afternoon, 4 years ago, was the first time she had to fix Cheston Dallair up. She was the first person to witness the Mage of Arrows.

"Descending to the gate of Melanous." The speakers blared the pilot's voice. "Estimated time of arrival is-..." There was a pause. Jexal, Anika, and Claudia looked up, confused. It seemed to take an awful lot of time for the pilot to estimate the time of arrival. But at the corner of his eye Jexal saw the clouds... They were speeding upwards. Which meant one thing. They were falling. Jexal quickly grabbed the staff of Velion, which was leaning on his seat, and slammed it's top on the control room's door's lock. It broke off and he kicked the door wide open. The wind pressure was astronomical as the oxygen rushed in from the wide gaping crack in the windshield. Jexal's eyes widened and Anika screamed in terror. The pilot, and his assistant, were limp on the seats. He quickly surged forward to try and get them to fly again but the longer he looked at the control board, it seemed that the more blinking lights had shown up. "We have to eject!" Claudia screamed from behind Chronus. Anika pulled on his sleeve but he didn't budge. "The pilots!" He shouted over the loud air. "They're dead, Jexal! We're wasting time!" Jexal froze for a second then snapped back. He gritted his teeth and looked back at the two pilots. They were innocent... And this wasn't just an accident. No. This was murder. And something told him the people weren't after the pilots. They were after him. "Grab my hand!" Jexal shouted. Anika, without hesitation, applied a strong grip on Jexal's hand. Claudia grabbed Anika's hand as Jexal blasted the remains of the windshield off. "Get ready!" He walked forward, slowly, since the air pushed him back. "Three!" He formed a shield of air in front of him, which changed the direction of the oncoming force. "Two!" He gripped the edge of the windshield's socket and pulled him and his two companions forward. "One!" He looked out as the landscape quickly drew closer from beneath them. "JUMP!" In unison, the three jumped into the air and Jexal cast a spell so that his staff would increase in length, quickly landing on it on his two feet while the two women landed on it sideways. "Hang on." Anika kept her grip on Jexal's hand but let go of Claudia's to grip the magical infused staff. They floated in the air, as they watched the aircraft make contact with the ground and explode.

Jexal looked to the horizon as the fire from the ship burned a few hundred feet behind him. They had landed rather farther away from it since they weren't sure if it would still explode again or not. They couldn't stay in the air either because carrying three people at once exhausted the mage. They trudged through the prairie, making slow progress. Every now and then, Claudia would scream in glee when she gets a reception on her phone. And for a few times, Jexal would send arrows to the sky to act as flares. When the fire burned out and they salvaged the ship, nothing was left to be used. All the food was burned and could not be used. The sleeping bags were scorched. And they couldn't even find the First Aid kit. All of a sudden, Anika screamed. Jexal raised his staff in defense as he turned around to face her. She looked back at him with teary eyes. "I can't stand this anymore... I'm hungry. I'm cold. And I haven't seen another living person's face in forever!" She screamed. Jexal was about to calm her down with words but, as the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, Claudia slapped Anika. Her hand left a red mark on the tall blonde woman's pretty face. "Get yourself under control!" Claudia screamed at her face. "You're our greatest asset, Ms. Nikolova!" Anika pursed her eyebrows. But Jexal had the same thought in his head. What did she mean by that? The dean pointed to the West, where the sun had set. "I've seen your records! You did not only exceed in medical science but also in geography! And this is the west! You're home! You should know this place like the back of your hand!" Anika fell to her knees and sobbed and Jexal was immediately to her side. "There's no need to be so harsh on her..." He whispered. Loud enough for everyone to hear. "Yes! It is! She's a grown-up woman! She should learn to stand tall and just take whatever life hurls at you!" "Mrs. Templeton. You're tired. And hungry. This is why you're acting like this. Please, calm down." Claudia grunted and turned around, to face the north. She squinted her eyes and froze. "Jexal... Jexal. Jexal!" Chronus looked up at her questioningly. But before she could speak, an arrow was already through her shoulder. Blood splattered onto the ground. Anika screamed as the archer shot another arrow at her. But Jexal was too fast. He swiped at the arrow with perfect timing, deflecting it to the side. He stood up and took note of the situation. There were 3 archers. 4 swordsmen. And 2 men on glizzards [19]. The glizzards pulled some sort of large wagon behind it where the archers and swordsmen were hiding. It had 3 'windows' at the front where the archers shot from. Jexal lifted his staff up and the swordsman in the middle, seeming to be the leader, raised his sword. A declaration of battle.

"Take care of Claudia!" Jexal shouted as the archers shot arrows at them in unison. Jexal released a burst of air to knock all of the arrows off course. He charged forward and so did the two winging swordsmen. The first slash was easy to read and he dodged it easily. The second slash cut off a bit of his mage robe but Jexal connected with a high kick to the face. The man was knocked back to the leader, who pushed him off to the side and slashed at the mage. The leader's attacks were much more faster but Jexal dodged all of them. Barely. The leader swung high, to his neck and Jexal dodged low. "Gotcha." He heard the first swordsman whisper and he slashed at him low. He put his staff in the way and everyone heard a loud splinter. Jexal smiled as the Staff of Velion grasped the sword in between it's small nick. "No. I got you." He flicked up the staff, disarming the first swordsman and slammed him on the chin with an uppercut from the lower part of the staff. Unconscious. The leader swung at him but he hit the armored man on the wrist, making him drop the sword in agony. The archers all fired at him and he pulled the man he had kicked aside in front of him. He dropped to the ground. Dead. One Glizzard rider jumped off the beast and unsheathed a mace. The leader picked up his sword again and threw another man's sword at Jexal. He missed by an inch as Jexal charged at the heavily-built Glizzard rider. He jumped up and slammed the staff on the side of the man's head. No effect...? The large man kicked him away and he was knocked back a few feet. Surprised, Jexal looked up. Only one way he could think of to do it quick. Jexal jumped high into the air and aimed down at the large man. "Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!" 10 arrows of light shot at the man and exploded on impact. The leader was knocked back and the two glizzards were startled. The beasts ran away, archers still inside. One of them fell out and was trampled over by a glizzard. Dead. Jexal landed and stood up from the billowing dust. "Who's next?" Jexal Chronus muttered.

The leader stood up and glanced over at Nikolova, who was still caring for Templeton. He looked back to Jexal. Who was already right in front of him. Jexal smacked him in the face with the top of the staff, knocking him back. The leader picked up his sword and charged at Anika. Jexal grunted and stood back up and ran at him, tackling the man to the ground. The leader was able to roll Jexal off and cut his arm on the side. Jexal shouted in pain and rolled up to a standing position. The leader brought up his sword. Just then, it all happened in an instant. Metal pierced skin. A soul escaped it's flesh prison. And blood splattered Anika's face. But it wasn't her's. Claudia had pulled out the arrow, causing blood to gush out her shoulder and stabbed the leader straight through the lung with it. The leader rolled off and fell to the ground. Jexal ran towards them and panted. "Why did you do that!?" He shouted. "I don't know what to do. I don't have the necessary equipment to stop the bleeding!" Anika panicked. Claudia spit out blood. "Stop." Anika screamed. "Don't talk! You're stressing yourself!" "No. Let her... There's no chance." Jexal knelt beside the two bloodied women. "Jexal... Go... To the Real World... Leave. Take this... Press the red button." Claudia pulled out her bloody hand from her pocket and pulled out a small microchip with a blinking red button. "What will it do?" Jexal asked. "Emergency transporter... You will be transported straight..." She coughed. "To the Real World... Only to be used if something truly bad happens..." Anika shook her head. "But we have to get to the gate first!" "No... Not much time. Anika... You can survive on your own... Jexal. Press it." Jexal looked at the button then looked back up. "No. I have to get Anika to safety first." Claudia coughed blood. "No! There's not enough time... Press it!" She reached out her hand and smacked the red button on the microchip. It suddenly warmed up. Jexal threw it a few feet away a portal opened. The air around him was being pulled into it but it seemed that Anika and Claudia were unaffected. "Go." Claudia muttered. "NO! Anika!" Jexal shouted. "Help! Grab my hand!" Nikolova stood up after gently placing Claudia's head on a soft patch of grass. "No... Jexal... You must leave." "I need to get you to safety!" "No... Go. You're endangering us, Scholar..." Jexal's eyes widened in surprise. "... W-what?" Anika looked up at him, tears streaming down her face. "You're the reason bad things like this are happening! Leave!" Jexal was speechless... He felt betrayed. Was Anika letting go of him now? Was she cutting him off? "No..." He muttered. "I'm still Jexal, Anika... I'm still Jexal Chronus." He said, thinking she had though he had turned into some kind of danger since he became the Valedictorian. "No... You're not. You are no longer Jexal Chronus, the Valedictorian of the Millennium. The Scholar of the Capital of the Magic World..." Anika smiled and waved her hand. "You're Jex Cahill. Of the World of Science." Jexal trembled. "Go, now... That world needs you." She kissed his forehead goodbye and moved back to Claudia, who seemed to be drifting in and out of consciousness. "Goodbye, young Scholar." Anika muttered. "Goodbye, Jex Cahill." Jexal closed his eyes, a tear trickled down his face. "Goodbye, Anika."

Home in the Foreign Land

Jexal. No, Jex Cahill. That was his name now. He kept on forgetting. A young child bumped into him. The child almost fell down but Jex caught his hand before he completely lost balance. "Oh, sorry Mister Cahill!" The child said out loud. "No running in the hallways, Charles." The kid smiled and started skipping to his classroom. Jex smiled and then started walking to his next class. A year now, exactly, since he was sent to the Science World. The first 3 months were full of dread, wandering the streets aimlessly. On the third hour of the third day of the third month, he met a woman. Danielle Germaine. She had taken him in. Not normal for a girl from the World of Science. His clothes were tattered when he was found. Food stained his robes. Blood stained his face. And his staff ticked like a metronome when he walked. A disgusting sight yet... Yet she had helped. Well, he did push her out of the way from a bus that was out of control. But that was besides the point. She nurtured him and took care of him. She was 18 but she lived alone, which meant her parents were not a problem at all. She gave him food and even new clothes to wear. He guessed it wasn't just for himself but also for her, since he had started stinking a lot. One day, she had suddenly just driven him to school and he registered. But he already knew everything they thought so he graduated school in a month. And now, he's working as a student teacher [20] under Mrs. Jenalynne Gerowski. He walked in the class as a child threw a paper airplane in the air. He quickly swiped at it, midflight, and caught it between his fingers. He smiled. "No paper airplanes in school, Delton." The kid blushed in embarassment and sat back down. He went in front of the classroom and the noise died down. "Good morning, class." "Good morning, Mister Cahill." He looked around, scanning the class. Everyone was present. Good. Another school day in the life of the Scholar had begun.

The bell rang and the kids jumped out of their seats and ran out. "Be careful, everyone!" He smiled at them. Just as the last child had left, Danielle entered the room. "Hey!" She smiled at him gleefully. He looked up at his papers and blushed. He was always an organized person but he had so much going on that day, his papers were pretty much scattered all over the place. She laughed. "Wow. Bad day?" She walked to him, her shoulder bag swinging back and forth with every step she took. "No. Just a lot of things to be done." He smiled at her and bunched the papers up in a neat file rather quickly. He opened his satchel and pulled out an accordion folder [21]. "So, coffee today?" She said as she put the chairs on top of the tables on by one. "Uhm, maybe not today. I have to do some errands today." He shrugged. She looked up at him and cocked her hip up. "Are you going to the meadow again?" "No. What makes you say that?" He looked up at her after stuffing all his papers neatly in the folder. "Well, last time you said that, I saw you there staring at some tree." She raised her eyebrow. Cahill picked up the whiteboard eraser and wiped off the notes on the board. There was a long pause. "Where's Mrs. Jenalynne?" Danielle asked, shaking her head. "Sick. Had to cover for her the whole day." Jex clearly avoided the question about the meadow. "Well, I need to do some stuff with a few friends. I'll see you later at home. Bye." She waved her hand and ran out of the room, looking at her watch. "No running in the-... Hmm." She was out of earshot before he had finished. He looked at the door as he dropped the eraser. He walked to the window and watched Danielle run outside the school doors and onto her bike. Indeed, he would go to the meadow again.

It was windy today. Jex scrunched up in his sweater, hand-made by Danielle herself, and shivered. He stared at the willow tree. Nothing new, like usual. Wait. He walked through the low leaves of the old tree. A... Hole in the tree? He hasn't seen this before. It was probably made by a woodpecker. There was quite a few of them in this area, the City of Edson [22]. He dared not put his hand inside it but he peeked in anyways. Too dark to see. He looked around the tree more, but that was the only new thing. The sun had already set and the lights were coming on. Jex was about to leave when he saw a glint form inside the hole. He turned back and midway, he saw the glint again. Must have been reflection. And he did not know a bird that could reflect light like something metallic. He walked forward and, trembling, reached in the hole... Nope. No pecking. He felt around the bare inside of the tree and felt something box-like. It seemed to be small and cold. He pulled it out and discovered a... A jack-in-a-box. He kept the box on his left palm. It fit perfectly on his hand. He grabbed the handle and spun it around. And around. Again and again. Soft music started playing. It was sing-songy but it could be anything inside the box. A bomb, even. But he would risk it. Besides, he saw no reason why a bomb would be in a random wind-up jack-in-a-box. Suddenly, the music stopped but nothing happened. The lever became harder to twist. Jex heard a click and the box sprang open. He jolted in surprise. His eyes widened. A holo [23]. He activated it by infusing magic on the red light at the bottom right corner of the item. Letters formed. It read:

Jexal Chronus, we need you now. Zephiren's army seems to be getting more and more active in your area. We believe that he knows your whereabouts. Be prepared. We advise you stay away from the more densely populated areas. There are much more eyes watching you than you think. Keep the Staff of Velion near you. If you are attacked, call for help immediately. The bottom of the staff can be unscrewed. Press the button. Back-up will come as soon as they can...
Also, I'm sorry for not being able to communicate with you for so long. I promise we will meet again, soon.
-Anika Nikolova

Jex trembled. He put the holo in his pocket and started running. The sun was already set and the sky was dark. All of the city lights were on. Danielle would be worried. He booked it [24]. He reached the bright small house and fumbled to open the doors with his keys. He stepped in just as Danielle was about to open the door. "Something wrong, Jex?" She asked, her eyebrows knitted. "No... I'm just tired." He took off his shoes and ran by her. "Supper's on the table." "Can you just ref it? I'll heat it up later. Thanks!" He went up the stairs and ran into his room, shutting the doors closed behind him. He jumped in his bed and pulled out the holo. He would read it to sleep tonight... Maybe he wouldn't even sleep at all...

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Encounter the Demon

DANGER!

Jump. Grab post. Swing Across. Land. Dodge Roll. Explosion. Ears ringing. Run. Duck. Slide. Pop out. Point staff. Fire. Explosion. Turn around. Trapped. Dead end. Guns aim. Fire. White. Silence.

Jex Cahill woke up from his dream. He was sweating heavily. He had taken off his shirt in the middle of the night, since it was really warm. He crawled out of bed, flipping the covers off. There was a soft thud as the holo dropped to the floor. The holo. He looked back and picked it up off the ground. It was still fine. No damages. He put it on his side table and grabbed the staff of Velion off it's leaning position at the corner of his room closest to the window. He slid the glass aside and let the chilly breeze roll in. It felt great. He looked out to the park. The sun wasn't even up yet. Even though it was already 6 A.M. Means winter is afoot. He looked at the willow tree, which he could only see if he poked his head out to the side. Was it... Glowing? A transfer? When he was transported in this world a year ago, the same thing happened. The tree started glowing from the inside and the glow spread and out he came from it. Freaky but nobody even cared since it just looked like a gathering of fireflies. Jex threw his staff out the window but it didn't fall. It floated right in front of the window. In level with the windowpane. As he was bout to pull himself out, he remembered that he didn't have a shirt on. Probably would help if he did. He quickly slid his closet doors open and pulled on a shirt and a vest. In the process of closing the closet, he saw his old tattered cloak. He took it off it's hook and put his sleeves on one by one. Warm. It was infused by magic. It maintained a certain comfortable heat all the time. He left the cloak unwrapped and jumped out the window, landing on his staff on his two feet. He rode it like this for two reasons. One, he was a male [25]. And two, he was taught to ride it this way. He shut the window, but not all the way, so that he could sneak in. Saturday today. No school. He flew off to the willow. A ball of fire suddenly broke the quiet leaves of the willow and shot straight at Jex. He raised his staff with his feet. He infused his feet with magic so that it would cling to the staff. The fireball split in two when it made contact with the staff and flew off course. Wait! Crap. The innocent citizens. He turned to the fireballs and stretched his hand out. "Sagitta Magica! Series aqua!" Two arrows of water shot from his hand and made contact with the two separate flames. The fires disappeared quick in mid-air. The willow tree started burning from where the attack had pierced through it's leaves. But through the rather wide gap, Jex could see a face he hadn't seen for years. A face he had wished he would never see again. A face that still sent chills through his spine. "Hey there, Arrows!" The voice of Cheston Dallair rang in the Scholar's ears.

Dallair smiled. He wore a metal chest plate over a tight shirt. It had a green crystal-like object embedded on it that looked like it weighed a ton. He had gloves and forearm guards that also had crystals on it. And a winged helmet. But his eyes. Different. They were purple-like. Bright. They used to be a darker shade, And it wasn't just the lights playing. Dallair spread his hands as if welcoming Jex. "Hello, Jexal! It's been a long time now, hasn't it?" Jex slowly got close to the ground and jumped off, grabbing his staff and putting it between him and Dallair. "What? Scared? Hahah! No need to be. I'm your friend now." Jex cringed. Not because of what Dallair had said but because he could actually believe him. The kindness in his eyes. The tone and softness of his voice. Cheston reached out his hand. "A man can change. Especially a delinquent from high school." Cheston grinned. Jex walked to him, slowly. What was he thinking? Was he really going to shake his hand. "I was sent by Claudia. Mrs. Templeton." Jex nodded and proceeded. He grabbed Cheston's hand and shook it. Explosion. Jex went flying to the other side of the park. Stupid. He did a few flips in the air before he had actually landed. Well, crashed. He fell on his back and hit the fence with his arm. Pain shot through his body. Cahill groaned in pain. When he lifted his hand he could see blood. It dropped down to his face. His hand fell on his chest. "Ugh!" More pain. Worse. It felt like his chest was burning. He looked up and saw Cheston. Way at the other side on the ground as well. His whole body smoking. Dallair tried to stand up but ended up coughing blood. "How did you know!?" The armored delinquent asked. Jex slowly rose up to his feet and smiled. "Claudia is dead."

The explosion from earlier was from Dallair's chest plate. The green crystal. They must be mana generators [26]. Cheston unsheathed a his sword. It had wings on it's hand guard and another mana crystal. Jex lifted his staff. The wound on his arm would heal soon and his burns on his chest, even faster. Cheston smirked, standing up. He quickly ran forward and raised his sword. Jex pointed the staff forward. "Sagitta Magica! Series Fulgaris!" 12 arrows of fire shot from the tip off the staff. Dallair jumped, swerved, ducked, and sliced the energy arrows in half with his sword. He got to Jex and they converged in a staff-to-sword combat. Of course, Dallair was still better at striking and Jex was still better at dodging. But... Dallair got faster. This time, Jex had been doing much more blocking, which, if this was 4 years ago, could probably had hurt him much more. They were both getting tired. Just like 4 years ago. Dallair shot a fireball. De ja vu. Jex battered up with the staff and slammed the ball straight back at Cheston. But he wasn't there anymore. He had jumped high up, going to land on Cahill. Before Jex knew it, Dallair already had one foot on his chest and the other on the lower tip of his staff. The Scholar did not know the answer to this dilemma. Wait! He had an idea. He started twisting his wrist back and forth. "Trying to wedge it out, Cahill! I won't let you do that, you idiot!" A click. "Now... Bleed, Scholar!" Cheston raised his sword. Now. Jex pulled out the staff from underneath Cheston's foot, it seemed to be shorter. Jex spun and hit Dallair in the stomach with the lower tip of the staff. Another click. Cheston trudged back, sword still in the air. Jex flicked his wrist and slammed the lower tip of the staff on Dallair's chin. Cheston was knocked back. Jex jumped back and fired 3 arrows of light. They all hit Cheston and he was sent flying back. Smoke. Cahill could hear pebbles dropping to the ground. A bright light. And golden wings spread. A laugh. Dallair stepped out of the smoke. The armor had changed colors. Gold and red. Jex watched in amazement. "I am not Cheston Dallair, anymore, Scholar! I am Devangel Xarciss!" (Pronounced: Sar - sis) Cheston flew into the air. His wings wide and strong. Jex adjusted his glasses. "Well... If you were going to pick a name, you should pick one that was easy to pronounce..." Jex smiled. "Besides... You're not the only one who's changed their name." He spread his arms wide, staff in one hand. The robe fixed itself, turning white and gold. He seemed to shine in the dim light. "I'm no longer Jexal Chronus, the Valedictorian of the Millennium." The Scholar smiled. "I am now Jex Cahill, the Mage of Arrows!"

(To be Continued)

[25] Honestly, I do not understand how male mages can ride their staves like that. Doesn't it hurt them at all? And for women? Is that some form of pleasure-induction? Well... Knowing from Az, I'm pretty sure it's a 'Yes' for that latter question.

[26] Basically stones that create mana. Like the core of the Magic World. It is natural. Mages have the ability to absorb mana from items that have been infused with mana. Mana generators can also be used as weapons, depending on how much energy they have in them. This is done by releasing a tremendous amount of energy, which destroys the surrounding area. Some trained mages learn to control these energy blasts... I think.

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Encounter the Demon

Post  Jex Cahill Fri Mar 30, 2012 6:25 am

DANGER! Part two!

Jex jumped over the fireball. "Sagitta Magica! Series Aqua!" 15 arrows of water shot towards Cheston. No. Devangel. What a name. He dodged all of them in midair. He looped in the dark sky, and slammed down near Jex with his sword. A fault formed and the rocks flew straight at Jex. He slammed his staff down on the ground, releasing a neutralizing spell on the surrounding rock. Xarciss jumped and swung his sword at the mage. He blocked it with the staff but he was sent skittering backwards. Jex spun his staff, releasing a burst of air, clearing the dust around him. Out of the smoke, Cahill's enemy popped out and slammed his sword down on Jex. He just had enough time to create a rock shield above him before Xarciss made contact with it. The rock cracked. "Crap." Jex jumped away and saw the rocks collapse under the sheer power. The grass in the meadow was damp. "Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!" Jex fired 10 arrows of light at Devangel's silhouette in the cloud of dust. The arrows entered... Nothing? What? Suddenly, 10 arrows of light shot back at Jex. He activated a magic shield but the magical density in the arrows was much too high to completely stop it. He was sent flying back. Unhurt by the magic, but wounded by the blades of grass. He stood himself up. The mana crystals. They absorbed the attack and shot it back with much more power... This was going to be much for challenging than it has to be. But... He had a plan. He looked at the grinning face of Devangel as he knelt on one knee, his robe fluttering behind him. He touched the damp grass, looking down. "What? Have you given up!?" Xarciss laughed. Jex smiled and looked back up. The Scholar had a plan.

Xarciss stopped laughing. "What? What are you smiling at, you idiot?" Jex stood back up. Run. "Sagitta Magica! Series aqua!" He shot out 10 arrows of water straight at Devangel. The arrows merged into one in mid-air and shot at Devangel faster. Who smiled mockingly. He quickly slashed the water arrow in half and it exploded into tiny droplets of water. "Hah! Do you really think that water can hurt me? You've much to learn..." Devangel charged forward as well. Jex let the upper tip of his staff hit the muddy ground. Devangel sliced, releasing a magic burst that sliced through the air. Jex quickly dodged, barely. He kept his staff on then ground. Jump. Over Xarciss. The mud flew straight into Devangel's face. Perect. Jex landed and Xarciss struggled. Cahill pointed his staff at Devangel's back. "Sagitta Magica. Serie-" Jex was sent flying back. He stumbled down on the grass. His foe had smacked him in the chest with his boot. Maybe he should've landed out of melee range. Crap. Jex stood up as Xarciss scraped the mud off his eyes. "Looks like your sneaky little plan didn't work out very well, huh?" Jex looked up at him. Bruised and battered. "Still talk a lot, I see..." Devangel smirked. "You're not one to talk, taking in consideration that you're about to die!" Devangel pushed off his foot but... He didn't budge. He was frozen onto the ground. Tiny little ice veins had been planted along and between the grass and they had found his way onto his boots. He was frozen down. He struggled. Jex smiled. "Watch your mouth, Devangel." He pointed his staff at Xarciss. "Remember what Mrs. Claudia always said...?" Devangel started hacking at the ice with no luck. "Treat others..." An orb of energy concentrated at the tip of Jex's staff. "The way you want to be treated." Jex Cahill shot 25 arrows of fire at the immobilized foe. No escape. Devangel faced the attacked and smiled. It all happened too fast. Even a trained eye wouldn't have been able to see what happened. But Jex. He saw it all. And he was amazed. The ice melted right before contact. Devangel moved to the side, dodging the first arrow. He jumped forward, guarded my magical shield. Explosions. He stopped in front of Jex. Intense speed. He pushed kicked the mage down and pointed his sword to his throat. Done. Jex was done. He didn't know what to do now... "I'm sorry, Jex, but I better be off now." Devangel's eyes stood out in the now brightening sky. He had no chance now. "Goodbye, young Scholar..." He raised his sword. "Goodbye, Jexal Chronus." And before he knew it, Devangel was in a magic net. Contained. Backup has arrived.

Anika Nikolova knelt right next to Jex. She asked for her medical kit from another medic. A large group of armored mages surrounded Xarciss. Jex smiled back up at Anika. He hugged her. "It's been a long-" He coughed a bit. Anika put her hand on his chest, preventing him from sitting up. "Don't push yourself." She looked at him with concerned eyes. Then she smiled. "Is it just me? Or has it really been long enough that you'd turn reckless?" She hugged him and he hugged her back. His arms were wounded. He held his wince in and bit his lip. He let a tear fall from his eye. He heard glass shatter and magic beams shooting. A laugh. "I'll see you again, Chronus!" Wings fluttered. "Until we meet again, Cahill!" Silence. Dallair had escaped. But it didn't matter. Anika was with him again. He had never felt so happy in his life. This was his moment of rejoice. And nothing could take that away. Well, maybe a sword slashing through Anika's shoulder. Her blood splattering into his face. And her going completely unconscious. The last thing Jex heard before he screamed in horror was the laugh of one person. Cheston Dallair. Devangel Xarciss.

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Life or Death

Post  Jex Cahill Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:29 am

Lifeline

Danielle sat beside Anika. The paramedic lay on Jex's bed. Unconscious.
She had been given a lie. Anika was found in an alleyway, severely wounded. Jex had stumbled upon her on a morning run. He called the 911 team immediately and they got there as quick as possible. They couldn't bring her to the hospital since they were afraid the longer it took for her to be healed, the faster she would die. So they brought her to the closest temperature controlled place in the area... Which happened to be Jex's room [27]. Cahill looked out the window, which was shut closed. The paramedics said the sword was infused by magic and that they didn't know what the tainted air of the World of Science would do to the evil wound. Jex had also been releasing tiny, harmless bursts of magic to be infused with the air, which Anika's assistant had asked of him to do. So that the World's oxygen would be overpowered. The sun had risen already. It was late in the morning. Almost noon. One of the 3 medics, besides the assistant of Anika, walked to Jex and patted his shoulder, calling his attention, after removing her sterile glove. Which wasn't very sterile anymore since it was stained with blood. Jex turned around, releasing another burst of magic. The girl spoke in a hushed tone. She looked like she was no older than Jex but what she had said had pierced a rod straight through Jex's heart. "She's not going to make it." Jex's eyes widened and he clenched his fist. The watch of one paramedic started blaring out a loud siren. "The magic level in the room has increased ten-fold! Stop!" Jex tried to suppress his rage but the anger boiling inside him was unstoppable. "You're killing her, Cahill!" Suddenly, the watch stopped blaring and sound from outside the streets stopped in unison. "... There has to be... Some way..." Jex muttered. Just as the medic that was closest to him was about to talk, the assistant nudged her to the side and said, "Yes. There is." The other medics looked at him in confusion. "Well, what are you waiting for? Tell me now?" Jex frowned. "But it might just be the most dangerous thing you have done." Jex's frown vanished... And melted into a smile. "Please. High school was the most dangerous thing I have and will ever do."

"Okay. Well, this might just be a bit harder than I thought..." Jex stared at the portal in front of him. A muffled scream left the circular entrance. "A tournament... Really?" Jex sighed. The assistant paramedic said behind him, "3 days. That's how long the tournament is. 3 rounds. To get the Jmarlon. Or the lightsword, if you may." He froze. "And Danielle?" "Time in the realm of the Zswars moves much faster than the time here in the World of Science. Since it's not on the same time-pane. Unlike our World and this World. 3 days there would be roughly 10 minutes here." Jex sneered then sighed. "Alright. Well, I'll see you until then..." Jex looked back before stepping into the portal. "Good bye... Wait, what was your name?" The paramedic knitted his eyebrows. Then smiled, "Carter Hydra." Jex nodded, "Carter... If I'm not back by... '10 minutes'... Tell Anika, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me... And that I'll see her on the other side." He winked and looked into the portal. The paramedic, Hydra, raised his hand in goodbye and said, "Goodbye, again... Scholar."

Once Jex stepped through, he found himself among a line of hundreds and hundreds of men, beasts, and manbeasts alike. A booming voice allowed itself into everyone's ears. "Let the Jmarlon tournament... BEGIN!" Looks like he's missed the intro [28]. Suddenly, the ground started to rumble as large meteors fell to the ground. [29] Jex quickly unsheathed his staff. Easy. He dodged all the incoming attacks. A half of the people on the ground... Well, not there anymore. It wasn't very long when the people who could fly caught on. Jex swiveled around and found a large temple rising from the ground... With an open doorway. The target. He zoomed through the crowd. Was the doorway closing? Crap. He sped through. Some of the people on the ground who were closer had already gotten in but he was still far away. The door shut close as he came in 20 feet of the only entrance. No. It wasn't over. "Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!" 30 arrows of light shot at the door, which was made of rock, and it exploded into tiny bits and pieces everywhere. Cahill zoomed in, along with a few hundred other beasts and men. But when Jex turned around, another rock door had already replaced the one he had destroyed. He smiled... But it vanished. Everyone was staring at him. And their expressions weren't blank... They were enraged. Looks like he'd broken a rule. And he would have to pay for it. "Hahah! Welcome, survivors. To the Temple of Rahjon!" Everyone turned to a large screen, on the opposite wall to the entrance. "I see everyone has been acquainted with Jex Cahill, the breaker of Rule number 7." Crap. The image in the screen showed an old man's face, smiling. There was something behind him, clearly shining bright. His target. The lightsword. Jmarlon.

The Blood Bath

Jex Cahill remained in the air as the old man spoke. More details were given about the power of the Jmarlon. It is said that the lightsword has the ability to give life, although it can only be used once per person. It was also called the Sword of Judgement since it was known not only as a savior, but a weapon. The Mana it withholds is told to be of equal amount to the core of the Magic World... Great. Jex had a reason to attain the strength of the sword but... What about these other beings? What were their reasons? He shook his head. He looked up to see the old man was staring at him now, along with the hundreds of beings beneath him. 'The next round will consist of EVERYONE in this temple.' The old man smirked. 'It will be... A battle to see the strongest of everyone inside this temple...' All of the monsters and humans looked back at the old man. 'An all out battle to see how is the strongest. There will be two victors!...' Some people thought that was the end to the speech but Jex knew it wasn't. There was more. 'And as punishment for breaking rule number 7... Whoever kills the Mage, Jex Cahill, first will be beamed out of here and automatically sent to the next round with full immunity.' Jex froze. 'Let the blood bath...' A red light shone above the screen. 'Begin.'

The light turned green and the battle started. Or, battles, rather. And everyone was intent to kill the Magi. First a flying demon came up with a spear. Easily dodged. But then there were more. 'Sagitta Magica... Series Lucis!' Jex yelled. And 20 arrows of light emerged from the Staff of Velion to stop the flying men. But now tools were being thrown. Swords, axes, arrows. A lot of them missed and ended up killing others but quite a few were worthy enough to be called dangerous. Such as a battle ax that was thrown straight up at Jex and nearly sliced his arm off. It his the side of a stalagmite... Stalagmites! Jex pointed his staff up. 'Sagitta Magica! Series fulgaris!' Around 40 arrows of fire came shooting out of the staff. They hit each stalagmite at it's weak point. They blasts were strong enough to break them off the ceiling but precise enough to make sure the stalagmites did not explode completely. Jex had carefully placed himself to a place where he could not be harmed by the falling debris. Truly, it was a blood bath down there. Probably more than half of the people were killed because of that. The dust clouds cleared and revealed the aftermath of the attack. Jex, though, was not phased. Though, before, he was afraid. Afraid of having to have the burden of being a killer. But he knew these men were ready to die. Why else would they have joined this tournament. Besides, this was not for him, the power of Mjarlon. But for Nikolova. He had to save her.

Now, the weaklings are gone. Which narrows it down to the more experienced fighters. Great. But the weaker beings were the ones that were previously attacking him. Sure, everyone was intent to kill Jex, but not everyone was trying to kill me at that moment. Quite a few people knew that, even if someone had killed him, there would still be another place to fight for. So, while everyone was distracted at killing Jex, people have been dropping one by one by the hands of the seasoned killers that had joined the tournament. Jex landed atop the stump of a stalagmite. It was one of the larger ones. This one probably had a 50-foot radius. Some beasts had gone on it, too. Two of them, actually. Wereboars[30]. Both clad in armor. 'The Jin brothers will kill you!' The two said in unison. They both surged forward. Jex quickly got in a fighting stance. One of the Jin's, the one with a red headband, threw shuriken at Jex. He released a blast of air which deflected all of the shuriken off course. The one with a blue sash came forward with a large iron club. He was obviously faster and stronger than the other. He quickly swung at Jex but Jex countered with a leg sweep that knocked Blue sash right down to the ground. Red sash then threw a kunai with a fire seal connected to it. In one gentle move, Jex changed the wind pattern and made a 'U' in the air which made the kunai flutter and shoot straight back at Red headband. Meanwhile, Blue sash had gotten up and slashed at Jex with the sword. He ducked and delivered an uppercut with the staff of Velion. The boar was knocked back but wasn't affected much. He charged forward, about to tackle Jex, when Red sash dodged the kunai and threw another one at Jex. Jex jumped in the air to dodge the two, waiting for the collision but Blue sash jumped and tackled him off the staff. He fell off with the wereboar on top of him but he easily rolled him off and jumped back on his feet. He summoned the staff of Velion and shot a light arrow at Red headband. He then grabbed Blue sash and chucked him at the other wereboar. The light arrow exploded into a blinding light before it hit the wereboar. Red headband blocked his eyes and was hit by his brother. Both in a heap. They then slowly got on one knee, laughing. 'What a formidable opponent, you are, Jex Cahill.' The Red headband wereboar said. 'Yes, truly a great mage and fighter in your own right.' The two smiled at Jex. Cahill returned with a smile of his own. He liked the two's fighting spirit. Although they knew they were no match for the mage, they continued to fight on. "And you as we-" before Jex could finish his sentence, the Jins were already both on the ground, a hole through each of their heads. Bulletholes. Jex looked up to find a girl, sitting on a ledge with a high-powered sniper on her lap, aiming directly at him.

Jex stared at her. And she stared back. Jex's eyes widened. He shot a light arrow in her direction. This one was bright, which made the girl unable to see where he was. But that was not it's purpose. It hit a flying demon that was about to hit her with his sword. She seemed to have frowned. Jex was off the stalagmite. He was jumping form one to another, blasting enemies with fire arrows one by one. But soon it got out of his hands when he stumbled upon a small stalagmite with 5 demons on it. He was able to blast out 2 of them but was about to be tackled by one before it was shot through the head by a bullet. He looked up at the sniper. 'Amazing...' He said to himself. He blasted off one other demon before the other demon flew off, knowing he had no chance but was shot down by the Sniper. The battle raged on for a while and Jex continued fighting. Until there were only 3 people left. Well, the man Jex was facing thought there was only two of them. But Jex knew there was someone else.

'Whaaat? You're still alive!?' The man said. He was clad in robes. Probably a mage, too. 'Unbelievable! Well, looks like those idiots couldn't to it themselves.' He must have been referring to the other mage humans Cahill had encountered earlier. 'I guess the saying goes... never send a child to do a man's job.' How ironic. Those mages Jex had encountered earlier were much much older than this man, who looked like he could be the same age as the Scholar. 'See, just 'cause you have the same name as the man who saved my country, doesn't mean I'm going to save you.' The mage started walking around Jex, but he stayed there... Not moving. 'What? Are you scared so much that you can't move?' Jex looked at him. 'No. You just remind me of a blabber mouth I hate.' The mage frowned then released a fireball at Jex. Jex quickly spread his arms, which caused a burst of air to scatter the fire. 'Hm... But you don't remind me of his strength at all.' Jex's eyes lit up. 'Sagitta Magica! Serie Galciem!' Saying that, a single arrow of ice shot at the mage. He tried to deflect it but failed. On contact, he was instantly frozen solid... Including the bullet that was millimeters away from entering his skull.

The green light turned red again, which probably meant that the blood bath was over... Jex saw the Sniper lay her back on the stone behind her. He fell down, too, realizing just how exhausted he really was. 'Hahahah! What a great blood bath! Definitely one of the fastest rounds I have ever seen in the history of tournaments!' The old man's voice crackled to an ear-deafening level. 'I congratulate you, Jex Cahill. You really are a formidable mage...' He turned his head from the Scholar to the Sniper. '... And to you. Mrs. Claudia Templesmith, of the Elven... Hmm. I swear to God I've heard that name somewhere before...' Jex couldn't believe it. Was what he heard correct? He turned his head to the ledge to see the Sniper woman, sleeping. Could that really be the dead Claudia Templesmith? The one he saw die with his very own eyes? Wait. That's impossible. Like he said, she's dead. There's now way... Is there?

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Competition.

Post  Jex Cahill Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:42 am

Competitors!

Jex looked at her sleep. He couldn't see her face well from such a far away position. Before he could fly up there, a pod shot up in front of him and the man on the screen told him to go inside. "Jex Cahill and Claudia Templesmith, you will now be brought to the Mess Hall for a complimentary buffet meal." Right after he finished his sentence, Jex's pod closed and shot downwards. All he could see was a blinding light and the next thing he knew, he was sitting down on an old chair with a velvet pad. He looked around. Right in front of him was... The girl. She looked young31 but... Yes. This was definitely her. Claudia. But... How was she still alive!? It truly baffled him... He didn't want to wake her up from her deep slumber though... He wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to hear what really happened... When Jex looked around, there was a long table behind him with food on top of it. There were 14 more seats that were open around them on the long table they were on... He recalled the man saying the 'blood bath' was the fastest he'd ever seen. He wondered when the other 'blood bath's would finish. But after that thought, two more people joined them. A blonde man and a girl who matched his hair. They looked like they were related. They were seated right next to Jex and Claudia. The girl grinned. "Hey! You're that rule breaker! I'm surprised you're still alive!" Jex's eyes widened. Was that broadcast shown to all the temples? He looked to the blonde man. The man wore a heavily-clad armor. The girl, though, wore a light chain mail. The heavily-clad man said, "Don't mind my sister." He had a very deep voice. Could almost be mistaken as a menacing voice if it weren't for the smile plastered across his face. "My name's Jakob." (Pronounced: Jac - Owb) He looked across the table. "And I'm Kayra." (Pronounced: Cai - Ra) She smiled. Her face was dotted with freckles. But... Jex was confused. They seemed like they were mere humans. How could they have survived the blood bath? How did they even know about this tournament for Jmarlon in the first place? He shrugged off the question. "Jex Cahill. But I think you already know that."

It didn't take long before there were only two seats that were vacant. Jakob and Kayra had already gotten food, as well as Jex, and they were almost done with their food, actually. But some of the competitors had just gotten there and were just eating. Jex wondered why the seats to the left of him and Claudia were still vacant. He found himself thinking about what kind of people were going to be on those seats soon. He ate his last piece of bread. When he turned to the right, Jakob was just about to finish up as well. Kayra was still digging into a large piece of what looked like a gobbler [32]. He glanced at Claudia, who was fast asleep on her seat. The few minutes he was with Jakob and Kayra, he was able to find out that they were both warriors from a place called 'Val' [33]. Jex did not know a spot of knowledge about that place. He doubted there was even a book in the Cahill University Library about that place. He was just about to ask Jakob about Val when the two remaining seats were vacated. On the chair beside Claudia was what looked like an old lady. She looked like she was a necromancer. This was because of the necklace that wrapped around her neck. Three small skulls hung from it... Fashionably. He trembled. But... That wasn't it. When he turned his head to the left to face his company, he froze instantly. "Oh. Long time no see... Scholar." Devangel Xarciss flashed a devilish smile that shot a cold burst through Cahill's spine.

Jex Cahill froze completely. What was he doing here? "Oh, don't act so surprised. After all, it's a weapon of unlimited power. Of course I'm here." Devangel looked at Jex mockingly. He wore the same armor that he wore from last time. The Mana Generator looked larger from up close. Jex was speechless. Before Devangel could mock him even more, a man, the old man from the screen, entered the room. "Congratulations, contestants, on winning your respective blood baths." The man was short. He looked like a Magic Dwarf [34]. He walked around the table a few times, watching the people eat. He stopped where he was at first. "I shall now introduce to you, each other."

There was a total of 16 contestants inside the room, including Jex and Claudia. There were 7 women and 9 men. A screen popped up at the top of the door. The man said it was going to show highlights of each of the tournaments.

The first woman... Or beast, stood up. She was a scantily clad wolf beast... Confusing, really. Her name was "Ferla Crayhorn." She came from the plane of Eldor. A beast warrior. Beast warriors have senses that are equal to the beasts that they are similar to. She had a large scar that ran over her chest... Intimidatingly enough. The screen showed her pulling out a scmitar and slicing the head off of what looked like a mage.

In front of her was a child. Looking like he was no more than 9 years of age. He wore a white kung fu outfit with red borders. He sipped on his tea. His name was "Dawthon Maxi". His feet dangled from the old high chairs... Weird. So was the fact that he had a blue bead on his forehead. It looked like it was growing out of his forehead. The screen showed him standing in the middle of about 7 demons. And in 13 seconds flat, he was able to take them all down.

The people next to him both had red skin. Demons. They had large horns that matched their equally large and strong build. They looked intimidating. Their names were "Mark Deupreme and Ordon Wemble." They were white clothes that made their skin look even more red. As if, if you touched them, you would burn. The screen showed them fighting back to back with shades on. Each punch and kick they landed to someone would send them flying back by at least thirty feet.

Beside them was a man named "Doctor Wesley Derulo." A dragon humanoid. It seemed that he was able to breathe fire. The screen showed him hovering in the air and breathing out a curtain of fire over his enemies.

The next female looked like a mage. She wore a white robe with golden rings imprinted on them. Her staff looked like it was crafted gold. Her name was "Elaine Kravitz". The screen showed her using immense fire magic that overcame an attacking demon's hell fire attack... Which proved to be an interesting ability.

Then there was "Jakob and Kayra Swordsbane". The screen showed them each moving in weird motions. It seemed that they did not touch anyone but the surrounding enemies were bleeding on the ground at the count of five..
.
Then there was "Jex Cahill". It showed him dropping the stalagmites to the ground... He cringed then. He saw the pool of blood it left on the ground... What a massacre.

"Claudia Templesmith." It showed her holding the sniper gun up to her face. She released a trigger. And... The Jin brothers dropped to the ground. Right. She killed them both with one bullet... Such amazing accuracy.

Next was "Devangel Xarciss." It showed him swinging around a sword that looked like it was forged with Mana Generators. In one sweep, he was able to create a Magic strike that killed over half the people in his temple... What power... Jex couldn't believe this man had so much power. Compared to him Jex was probably... Just an ant...

The necromancer now. "Shiena Carma." She seemed to have awoken the half of the temple that Devangel had killed. What amazing Magic levels she had to be able to perform a spell of that strength and amount...

Then there was a giant. "Hugh McPlard". From the realm of the Giants. He stood at 9 feet tall and carried a blade much larger than him. He wore a samurai outfit. The screen showed him spinning in a circle repeatedly until everyone within a ten foot radius around him was chopped to pieces.

In front of the giant was a girl clad in ninja armor. Light and versatile. She was tall. Standing at maybe around 6 and a half feet. She had short hair. Her name was "Elena Mellory." Behind her was a Demon's Shuriken. A large ninja star. It was stained with blood. The screen showed her throwing the massive weapon from afar and killing 3 warriors in heavy armor all at once.

And at the end of the table was a large man who had finished a Gobbler all by himself. He wore clothes that were obviously too small for him. 5 maces dangled from his belt. This man was a Vandel. Jex knew him. "Keriko." The Fastest Vandel alive. The screen showed him wielding two maces. He had bashed in the brains of a heavily clad giant in one swing. Such brute strength. Scary.

Then there was the thin and fragile woman in front of him. She had 8 arms. But... She was blind. Her eyes looked weak, along with her body, but everything else about her looked so... Strong. Her lips did not waver. They were sealed tight. "Leyannae Gordon." The screen showed her using the physical Ki to kill enemies with one blow.

That was it. The 16 competitors. "What a great tournament this is going to be..." The old man giggled a little. From here on out, it will be one versus one battling. The screen displayed the sheet. "Round one will happen simultaneously." The sheet went like this...

Dawthon Maxi
Leyannae Gordon

Ordon Wemble
Jakob Swordsbane

Doctor Wesley Derulo
Jex Cahill

Shiena Carma

Devangel Xarciss

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Round One!

Post  Jex Cahill Wed Aug 29, 2012 10:12 pm

Tournament of Jmarlon; Round One!

Jex Cahill jumped out of his seat, unsheathing his staff. Everyone in the room found themselves facing their opponents. Jakob and Kayra were already standing back to back. Jex looked around. His eyes widened. Claudia was still asleep! A large demon shuriken flew in the air, towards Claudia. Jex wouldn't be able to react fast enough. He lifted his staff. But, before he could do anything, Claudia fell off her chair, the shuriken missing by a few millimeters. Jex sighed. But he needed to worry about himself. The Doctor tackled him and sent him flying through a wall off to the side. When the rubble cleared, he found himself in some sort of laboratory. Glass vials spilled colored liquids onto a table to the side. He could see a hole had been made where the chemicals mixed. He frowned. Where was the- Before he could finish the thought, instinct told him to dodge to the left. And so he did. A barreling fist slammed down to his right. He could feel his ear pop from the air pressure. His head would surely have been crushed if he hadn't moved. He flicked his arm up, hitting the dragon humanoid with the end of his staff. He had infused it with fire magic, which caused the man to blast away on impact. Towards the chemical vials. He would surely die of all the chemical reactions. Jex stood up just as the Doctor crashed into the shelf, lined with the substances. He started walking away, dusting himself off. Before he could take a step, though, he felt a sudden spike in the temperature. A bead of sweat formed itself on his forehead quickly. He jumped to the side just as the fire flew by. When he looked up, Wesley Derulo had stood back up. He seemed somewhat... Larger. Damn. The chemicals must have made this possible. He started running away. The lab was huge. Much much bigger than the mess hall. He found himself wondering about why they would put a lab next to where they would eat, though. He got on his staff. Two feet planted on the thin stick. He turned around to find that Wesley had been following him. Flying closely. Jex smiled. He loved air battle.

He did a full 360 degree flip, finding himself behind the Doctor. The Doctor opened his mouth, releasing a blast of fire at Jex. He quickly swept himself to the side, firing an arrow of light at the beast. The enemy, blinded by the light, couldn't dodge and was hit. He was sent flying back by the blast but remained in the air. He would charge at Jex now. But the Mage too quick. He outmaneuvered the dragonkin and was able to repeatedly hit him with light magic. Though, no matter how many times the Doctor was hit, he would not slow down nor show any signs of being hurt. Jex frowned. What would he need to do to defeat this man? Suddenly, Wesley released a burst of fire at Jex. Cahill was unprepared and had to use his fire magic to make it scatter. He opened his arms wide, as if he was flying, which made the fire from Wesley move out of the way. But behind the flames was the Doctor himself. He sped up and tackled Jex off of his staff. Both of them crashed down to the ground. Pain shot through the Mages body. Fortunately, he was able to release a burst of air before impact which cushioned... Most of the fall. He stayed on the ground. His robes were tattered much more now. Derulo stood up, putting a foot on top of the Mage. "Now. I shall DEFATE you." Jex looked up as the Dragonkin started flapping it's large wings, generating hot air. Jex could barely move now. His staff was too far away. He wouldn't be able to generate a Magic arrow strong enough to stop the Doctor. He watched as the Doctor's fist engulfed in flames. This was the end.

The Doctor suddenly dropped through the air at amazing speeds. Jex raised his hand up then spoke. "Ultimate Magicam; Terra Glacie." Jex closed his eyes. When his hand made contact with Wesley's fist, the temperature spiked down and everything went from red to blue. When Jex opened his eyes, everything around him was frozen over. He looked up and was shocked to see that the Dragonkin was frozen in ice. He was still in a punching formation. But... He didn't seem to be alive. His mouth was wide open. His insides must have frozen over, Jex thought. Slowly, the Mage pushed himself away from the thin ice that held up the frozen Doctor. Jex slid smoothly on the ice. He looked around. The whole room was frozen in ice. Jex breathed out. He could see his breathe. He started shuddering. Suddenly, the ice block that encased The Doctor fell apart in front of him into much smaller pieces. That must have been it. The end of this battle. Jex started walking out of the crater. He grabbed his staff which teetered at the side, a small piece of it frozen in ice. He infused it with magic, which made it warmer, melting the ice around it. It slid out of the ice smoothly.

Jex got back to the mess hall to be greeted by Mark Deupreme, Kayra Swordsbane, Keriko, and Dathon Maxi. They all gathered around the screen. The mess hall lived up to it's name... Yet not the way it was intended to be. Holes in the walls and ceilings allowed the red sky to be seen. He looked up at the screen too, just in time to see Devangel's hand on the Giant's head. Hugh was kneeling down in front of him, with only the white of his eyes showing. Blood started seeping out of his eyes. A scary and gruesome sight. Jex half-expected Kayra to look away but she stood firmly on the ground along with the rest of the people there. He turned to the left to see that Claudia was still on her chair. He furrowed his eyebrows. What had happened? She didn't seem hurt. He looked around. His eyes widened in surprise and fear. The Shinobi woman was on the ground. Her head surrounded by a pool of blood. Jex started walking to her, only to be interrupted by a man's scream. He turned to the screen to see that Jakob's left arm scorched black. He swung his arm and his enemy, Ordon Wemble, fell the ground. The demon was covered in blood and cuts. Jekob had won the fight. With a price. It didn't seem like that left arm could be salvaged...

In the end, the first round ended like this:

Dawthon Maxi
Leyannae Gordon

Ordon Wemble
Jakob Swordsbane

Doctor Wesley Derulo
Jex Cahill

Keriko
Shiena Carma

Devangel Xarciss
Hugh McPlard

Jex Cahill Storyline Empty Re: Jex Cahill Storyline

Tournament of Jmarlon; Round Two!

Jex stared at the screen blankly and sat down. He had to rest before the next battle. There was in now way he could possibly fight right now. He lacked the energy or mana to continue. The meal helped but the sudden use of Ultimate Magic without preparation took a large effort. He was surprised he had even pulled it off. In reality, there was no way he should have been able to cast the spell without fatal repercussions. Besides the fatigue, it made him wonder. But he had no time to. A holographic screen showed up in front of him and in bright white text, the symbols scrambled into the English language and said, "Round 1; Complete. Prepare for Round 2...

Mark Deupreme
Jakob Swordsbane

Kayra Swordsbane
Devangel Xarciss

Dawthon Maxi
Keriko

Caudia Templesmith
Jex Cahill

..." The screen, displayed as it scrolled down. Here. He finally had a chance to talk to Claudia. Before he could relax, the white letters started flashing red and converged in the middle of the screen. Suddenly, it formed the word: "Begin." Jex tensed. What? Had their battles not sated the these hosts' hunger for entertainment? Kayra heaved and unsheathed her blade. Jex's eyes widened as the wall closest to Kayra crumbled and in flew Devangel. The man tackled the maiden and they both crashed out the other side of the building. Jex picked his staff up and started towards them. Before he could take another step, he felt a string wrap around his legs and tighten. He fell to the ground. Before he crashed, he blew out, infusing the air with magic to cushion his fall. The bola around his ankles wrapped around tight. Claudia strutted towards him, gun in hand. "I am your opponent." Jex tried ripping the clasp off to no avail. "She's going to die!" He yelled, pleading to let him help her but to no avail. She pulled the gun to her sights and aimed. Jex grunted, tapping the bola with his staff, instantly freezing it. He broke the strands and rolled to the side, aiming his staff at Claudia. "Claudia, snap out of it! Don't you remember me!?" The Mage was furious. Kayra would die if Devangel was left with her. He looked at the Elf in the eyes and held his stance as she held hers. Her gun extended from the crease in her arm to about an inch off Jex's forehead. His staff, poised to shoot her stomach.

His chest hurt from tensing up but he knew if he let his guard down for merely a split second, she would take his life. This was not Claudia Templesmith. This was the face, the body, and the voice of the Elf but none of those held the Old Elf's true mind. He jerked his staff upwards, knocking Claudia's gun out of focus. She pulled the trigger but Jex was far from where the bullet would travel. He had quickstepped off to the side of Claudia and swung his staff to the side of Claudia's face. The Elf would then duck, swinging her gun forward as it retracted it's barrel, allowing it to fit between her and Jex. Before she could aim, the Mage shot a fist straight at her jaw. She shot back, trying to cushion the blow and falling off balance. Jex jumped upwards, using magic under the soles of his shoes to propel himself into the air. Claudia put her left arm over her face, her jaw clearly in pain. She lifted her right arm as she lay flat on her back, gun in her hand. Hopping on his staff, Jex turned a hundred and eighty degrees from straight up and propelled himself forward. Claudia pulled the trigger. The bullet pierced through the air and whizzed by the staff as it sped to the ground. Her eyes widened as she scanned the air for Jex. He was nowhere to be seen. The staff sped down, aimed at her stomach. She threw her body sidewards and narrowly avoided getting the air knocked out of her lungs. Her hair flipped in her eyes. As she struggled to whip her hair back, she felt the tip of a warm fingertip on her forehead.

"Bang."

Jex stood up, dusting himself off. He stepped over the body of the Elf. A white screen lit up in front of him and gleamed in red letters, "Winner!". She lay lifeless, fingers unclasped. The gun was rested on her palm but it slowly shrunk to the size of a small pistol. He stared at his right hand, and focused on his middle finger. It was much warmer than the rest of his body but it  eventually spread through out him as the Mana was assimilated. He grasped his staff and pulled it off the ground as it had buried itself into the floor from the impact. He had made sure not to cast the 'Sugere' spell at it's most potent form. Had he absorbed any more natural energy from the Elf, she would have died. He hopped on his staff and flew towards the hole in the wall where Devangel had carried Kayra away.

He was certain if he had not played his cards right, he would have died. Whether or not that was Claudia or not, he knew there was no way he would have beaten her in ranged combat. Her gun was indefinitely foreign. He had never seen anything like that technology. The most he learned from it was that it was powered by Mana and without it, the gun could not shoot, more or less shapeshift. He shook his head. So many questions remained unanswered. What had happened to Claudia? Where did she have that gun? What would he do now? His eyes narrowed as clouds of smoke rose from the ground a couple miles out. His goal was the same. It always has been since he got there. He landed on his staff, eyes directed at Devangel. A screen flashed in front of the demonic Mage and the message formed "Winner!". He laughed as he lifted he turned his head, looking back the mage. He lifted his arm up, gigantic, armor-plated fingers clasped around the small and fragile head of Kayra Swordsbane. She was no more. He dropped her lifeless body on the ground and Jex stared directly at him.

"It's just you and me again, Cahill." A dark flame ignited beneath his palm. He flipped his hand over and the inferno grew into a massive ball of fire. It's size equated that of the mana gem on Devangel's chest.

"Jmarlon is mine." Jex lifted his staff, fist clenched tightly around it. A ball of light twinkled and came to life at the end of the Staff of Velion.

"You wish, pal." Devangel used his other hand and grasped the ball of fire between his palms. He fed the Hellfire more mana, increasing it's density and power.

"I'll see you in Hell." The ball of light had grown to a size equal to that of Devangel. He breathed in, allowing the magic to flow through him and into the staff and out onto the ball.

"Devil's Vanguard: Hellfire." Xarciss ran forward and threw his hand towards Jex. The fiery ball of intense magic flew directly at Jex.

"Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!" Jex stood his ground as he felt the the sweltering heat. The ball of light released hundreds of light arrows at the hellfire. The arrows extended from the ball, allowing them to gain power and energy as they travelled.

Just as the two opposing forces of magic were to meet, they disappeared into thin air. Suddenly, Jex felt his body instantly get heavier. He fell to ground, writhing in pain. Devangel suffered the same fate. He screamed curses. What was happening? Jex's eyes could barely stay open from the exhaustion. The last thing he saw was a blinking message that said, "Error! No Fighting Between Matches!".

And with that, all Jex Cahill could see was darkness.

Game Maker

A thin wisp of light crept between his clasped eyelids. Anything that could possibly be in front of him was shrouded in a blur of consciousness. He writhed in pain as he felt the cold, hard stone floors of his confines. Stretching his hand out he was somewhat scared of what his his fingers would find as his eyes could not see. Wincing, he decided it was time to wake up. Forcing his eyes open, he expected a flood of light yet everything remained as well lit as it was when his eyes were closed. He could see, however, bars. Parallel lines stretched from the top of the darkness to the bottom of the abyss. Glancing around, he could make the inference there wasn't anything else in his cell besides him. The bars looked crooked. He let his eyes follow the trail of shadows. He could tell there was a fire nearby the wall to the side of the cell due to the flickering of the light and inconsistent warmth that licked at his skin. He would call out but he knew his voice would be hoarse. He was unsure how long he'd been in the cell but it was long enough for his mouth and throat to have gone dry. Unsure of what to do he waited.

Not long after he had decided to shut his eyes once again, a soft sound echoed. Footsteps. More than one person as it came as a continuous, fast paced, horde-like beat rather than a monotonous metronome. He once again forced his eyes open and stared out. New shadows formed as his guests appeared. 2 Dwarves appeared with 4 humanoid creatures. One of the creatures kicked the gate open and walked towards Jex. He felt his collar tighten around the back of his neck as he was pulled upwards on his feet.

"Jex."

One of the dwarves croaked.

"Why must you act so... Inappropriately."

Jex smirked. At that moment the humanoid struck him in the stomach. He grunted as the pressure around his neck disappeared and he dropped to the ground.

"What are we supposed to do!? You were the reason we were getting so many viewers! The great Master of Arrows come to take the prize of Jmarlon!"

"Breaking so many rules, breaking so many experiments, breaking so many arenas!"

"We have no choice but to remove you from the tournament."

Before Jex could speak up a grunt from the humanoid pushed him backwards into thinking twice before he spoke. One of the humanoids held his staff with two hands. Thrown towards him it struck the stone melodically.

"Before you leave, however, the Game Master wishes to meet with you."

Jex's eyebrows raised. The Game Master? He assumed it would be the host of the games but he was unsure if that was the case. He crawled forward and wound his fingers around the Staff of Velion. It came to life. Light emitted from it's crevices and breathed the excess magic out from itself. A surge of energy flowed into Jex's body. He stood up. They had affected the staff with rejuvenating magic. He could feel the strong material of the staff in between his fingers. For all he knew, the magic was laced but he couldn't do anything at the current time that would ensure his safety. The elf gestured him to follow and he did.

Down the dark fire lit hallways, the group finally found themselves approaching the exit. The dwarf coughed and looked towards Jex.

"His majesty sits on his throne on the ground floor. He was eager to speak with you, Arrow Mage. He had instructed his guards to carry his throne so far from his domain to speak with you. Do not disappoint him."

Jex looked at the dwarf and then towards the bright light at the end of the tunnel. He was unsure of what  to expect although he assumed it would be a dwarf of higher importance then these two. He stretched his neck out trying to get peek of the outdoors but his eyes had not adjusted to the extreme light of the outdoors. He squinted his eyes, pulling up his arm to shield his face as the suns of the planet burned his skin. He could only see below his arm and he could tell there were many guards in front of him standing in a cluster.

"Cahill."

A whispered voice called. Jex pulled his hand away from his face and nodded. A young man. Human, or so it seemed, sat on a throne of gold. He wore a clear white suit with golden trims and accents. His eyes looked tired, almost bored. His irises had a bright golden color. Jex curtsied.

"Game Maker."

The young boy laughed and stood and the two dwarves knelt immediately. One raised his hands and cheered.

"Oh great Signum Inferni, we thank you for blessing us with your presence."

The boys raised his hand, signaling them to stop speaking. Jex frowned and stared back at the man on the throne. He looked straight at his golden eyes.

"Welcome, Jex Cahill. How is your stay?"

Jex was somewhat surprised as a booming voice left the child's mouth rather than the initial whisper. He gripped his staff tightly, aware of his surroundings and he allowed his mana to seep into the ground, scouting around for any suspicious magic activity.

"Rather disruptive is it not?"

The boy laughed and gestured his hand.

"I am greatly displeased to see you get kicked out in the middle of the tournament. Though the people must know we discourage any kind of cheating and save no seats for anyone."

Jex nodded, still frowning. He started walking but the boy king threw him a little pendant.

"Take it with you. You will have much more use for it than me."

Jex caught the pendant and looked at it. It looked like a regular wristband made of soft plastic. He looked up at the Boy once again and muttered his thanks. With that, the Game Maker laughed and said goodbye, disappearing thanks to an Elven that had stepped forward, casting his 'home' spell. Jex stared off into the distance, lost in thought when he fell knees first onto the ground. He needed to get Jmarlon. Not only for the sake of his loved ones, not for the sake of keeping it from Devangel, but for the sake of this realm. He picked himself up and jumped onto his staff. He needed to find that Game Maker and end him.

Unleashed

Jex blinked and found himself in an open area. He looked around, confused. He was still on the planet. He could see pillars and the like stretching around him, stone cases placed symmetrically to where he was spawned. He stood up, dusting his garments off and clenched his staff. He looked forward and twitched. He realized that that 'home' spell wasn't a 'home' spell. The mage had sent him to the courtyard of, what he assumes, the Game Maker's throne. Yet that wasn't where his anger was found. In front of him was another figure, much larger than him, yet at the same time smaller. Devangel sat in front of him, looking right at him. He had none of his armor on and he wore a simple mage robe and poorly patched trousers. He wasn't powerless, Jex was sure, but he definitely wasn't as strong without his mana crystals.

"You got kicked out, too?"

Jex almost wanted to smack him in the face just for talking to him. Devangel read the tension and held his hands up in defense. He knew Jex could overpower him easily at this point in time but he didn't back down.

"You need me. At least, right now you do."

Jex lowered his staff, unaware that he was aiming it straight at his former colleague. He tightened his frown and looked ahead of Devangel, towards the end of the courtyard. About 300 yards away were steps leading to a plaza. Colorful decorations strung around the plaza as if an event was about to take place. The plaza itself elevated about 6 feet off the ground and was no bigger than 30 feet across. Jex looked at Devangel and back up.

"They didn't send you home for a reason, Jex. Same with me. They want you here, they need you here."

Jex looked back at Devangel and held eye contact with him, as if he was burning through his eyes using his own.

"Do you know how Jmarlon was made-"

Before he could finish a loud rumbling interrupted their conversation. Jex and Devangel both looked up at the plaza and could see a platform raising. A flash of bright blue light burned their eyes, forcing them to close it. It was Jmarlon itself, in all its glory. Jex started walking towards it but Devangel grabbed his arm. He was about to jerk his grip off but Devangel held a firm strong grip on him. He looked up and noticed 4 figures forming in front of Jmarlon. Claudia, Dawthon, Keriko, and Jakob stood between him and Jmarlon. Text flashed in between the two groups. Although it was meant for the four contenders, Jex could easily decipher the flipped text.

"Eliminate the two targets to pass into the finals."

Jex pulled Devangel up, who dusted himself off and readied his fists.

"Begin"

The letters changed and instantly, Jex was pushed back by an unknown force. He landed on his back and slid on the stone of the courtyard. Before he could recover, a flash of blue appeared in front of him. Dawthon Maxi released a flurry of punches that could've been the end of it had Jex not created a magic barrier between him and the kid. He allowed the barrier to burst outwards, pushing the little kid off of him. The kid flew off but landed on his two feet. Jex stood up, and readied himself. At that point a blast of dark magic shot at him, his eyes widened as he tried to block it. A mistake, he instantly regretted his decision. This specific Dark magic worked differently than regular magic. Rather than pure physical damage, the dark magic infused itself with him and tainted his mana. He fell down, dropping his staff instantly. Writhing in pain, the magic was destroying him from the inside out. Memories of death and despair clouded his thoughts and he couldn't focus. Flashes of the people he'd killed in the arena, Anika, and finally Danielle, who struggled to stay alive. All because of him. He focused on Danielle's face, she would not be in the position she was in if it weren't for him. He moved his hand forward and started patting the ground, searching for his staff. He felt someone kick him to his left and he flew off to the right. A sharp sense of pain went through his body. His vision blurred for a second and he thought it would've been over. Devangel's face loomed over him and Jex smirked for a second. That kid was gonna kill him right now, wasn't he? He held something in his right hand, the Staff of Velion and swung forward. Jex prepared for the impact but instead, he saw a flash of blue and the staff made contact with Dawthon as he flew through the air and away from Jex.

"Wake up, dumbass."

Devangel grabbed Jex by the collar and tapped his chest with the staff of Velion. Suddenly, all of the dark magic exited his body and seeped into the ground directly beneath him. The pain stopped but Jex was fatigued. He looked up. Dawthon stood closest to them, arms crossed. His small figure betraying his strength. Next to him was Jakob, sword in hand, eyes locked onto Devangel. Behind him was Keriko, holding a dream catcher in her hand. She smiled, flashing a view of yellowed teeth. And way behind them sat Claudia, sniper in hand yet she was not poised to shoot.

Jex stood up straight, preparing himself and Devangel stood beside him.

"This is a first."

Xarciss whispered to him. He smiled at the thought of the two of them working together. He held his staff up and a bright white light shined at the end of it.

"Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!"

Dawthon was too fast, however, before the arrows could even shoot forward, he had already found himself poised to strike Jex from below. Before he could do that, though, Devangel delivered a kick straight to his face, infused with destructive magic. Dawthon flew off to the side and Devangel triggered the magic that was left on Dawthon's face, causing a small explosion. The arrows from Jex's staff shot straight at Keriko who created a wall of dark energy. Jakob ran forward and went to strike Devangel, who was unprepared as he recovered from his first attack on Dawthon. A quick turn of his staff and a twist of his body, Jex parried Jakob's attack. He looked Jakob in the eyes and knew that the man he had once known was now gone. This man had the eyes of a killer, seeking vengeance for his lost sister.

Jex flipped his staff and delivered a blow to Jakob's chin. The fighter dodged back but Jex quickstepped in front of him and delivered an explosive palm to his chest, knocking him back. Devangel ran ahead and slammed his hand on the ground. The ground shifted and a wall of uneven debris formed in front of Jex as a blast of dark magic shot at it. The dark magic fused with the wall and it crumbled rather than exploding. Jex bursted through and attempted to hit Jakob with his staff but the Warrior swung his sword to parry the hit. Devangel took advantage of the swordsman's momentum and shot his hand up, his palm covering most of Jakob's face.

Before he could cast his destructive spell, Jex hit Devangel's side with his staff and hit Jakob with the end of his staff.

"Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!"

A single arrow of light magic shot out and pinned Jakob to a pillar. Jex had made sure not to hit anything important and light magic would keep him from bleeding out. Jakob dropped his sword and hung from the pillar, powerless. Devangel looked at Jex, fuming but he waved him off. He walked forward towards Keriko and she readied herself. Jex held his staff up and casted.

"Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!"

Bolts of light shot towards the dark magician. She created a wall of dark magic to protect herself, laughing at the attempt. Jex focused on his arrows and casted once more.

"Sagitta Magica! Series Lucis!"

This time, 100s of arrows shot from his staff and struck the dark wall. The wall weakened from each arrow and Keriko stopped laughing. Jex held his staff parallel to his body and reached out with his other hand. He mimiced drawing a string from the staff like he would from a bow and his magic formed into the shape of such a weapon. A single arrow formed and shot forward. This one traveled much faster and held much more magic than its predecessors. It hit the wall, matching it's strength and both of the pieces of magic disappeared. Devangel jumped forward and delivered a straight punch to the woman's face, effectively knocking her out. Jex looked towards Jmarlon then Claudia, who refused to even move a muscle.

Jex moved forward and climbed the steps of the plaza. Devangel stood close to him. He reached out to the hammer, a smile creeping on his face. He grabbed it, yet he grabbed nothing. The hammer disappeared and it was suddenly silent. Jex stared out, struck with confusion. He looked around, trying to find a clue as to where it had went, yet he didn't need to try too hard.

"Did I say you could touch this?"

A whisper all too familiar boomed through his ears. Claudia's eyes opened as she stared out to where Jex and Devangel were standing. Jex tightened the grip on his staff and looked out at the man in white. He stood, yet he levitated off the ground, hammer dangling from his right hand. Devangel tightened his fists and held it up to his face, yet he knew he was useless in a fight like this.

Jex stared at the man known as Signum Inferni. The man had many names. Harbinger of Death, Sign of Doom, Warning of the End. A man, who'd they'd been taught about at the school of magic as the most dangerous mage alive. If you could even call him a human, this man was the manifestation of evil magic himself. He was the first man to have ever been made only with the use of magic. No birth parents, no family, no blood lines. Ageless and almost invincible. He was the reason they were taught never to tamper with the human soul and magic.

Sign of the The End of Times

Jex Cahill was almost out of mana. He breathed in as another one of Inferni's fireballs struck the ground beneath him and he was thrown back. He mustered up just enough of  a magic shield to absorb the actual fiery element from harming him but the sheer impact of the fireball was more than enough to send signals of pain throughout his body. He barely landed on his feet this time, close to Devangel who was reduced to an unconscious state, piled on top of the stump of a once beautiful pillar. He looks pathetic,Jex thought to himself but he figured it wouldn't be long until he shared the same fate. Or worse. Jex looked back at the young, and he so hesitated to use that word to describe this immortal being, boy, who hovered a few feet above the pedestal he had summoned himself from. Jmarlon still hanging from his hand, magic visually ebbed from the weapon as if it could barely contain the power that it held in itself. Jex could feel it. He should have been tapped out of power minutes ago. All in one day, he had cast Terra Glacie and over hundreds upon hundreds of magic arrows. Something about this place just seemed to amplify his magic and whenever he'd thought he'd tap out of mana, he found more lying about within him. At first he thought he was in a dimension of which magic was more prominent and that it tainted the air around him. However, upon seeing the vials and chemicals that were being mixed nearby where they had eaten, he assumed they had tampered with everyone's meals, using rejuvenation magic to give everyone to energies back. Even then, Jex taught, he did not know of any foods or spices that could give someone their full strength back. Standing in front of the legendary weapon, he could finally connect all the missing pieces. Jmarlon is a vessel of almost unlimited magical power. With it, the wielder is essentially indestructible. Give it to a man who does not age and he is given true immortality. He could feel the immense magical pressure that surrounded the boy and the weapon just from being in eyesight of them, succumbing anyone to fall down to their knees and heed their respect for the wielder of Jmarlon.

Jex looked up and took scope of the situation. The longer this fight could go on, the more mana he could sap from the air around him that was continuously releasing from Jmarlon. He figured that if he could hold his ground and use as little mana as possible for about two and a half more minutes, he'd have just enough mana to cast Terra Glacie once more and perhaps try to get away from here. Before he could come up with anything else, he quickly stepped to the side right as another ball of fire hit the ground where he once stood. Inferni laughed. He was just playing with him now. A loud sound erupted from behind Jex and Jmarlon instantly rose in Inferni's hand. A crackle of magical energy sparked from the face of the hammer as a bullet slid off of its face and down to the ground, flattened by its impact. Looking behind him, Claudia, or whoever it may be, stood behind a pillar, reloading the gun, it's barrel allowing a thin wisp of smoke to exit. And just as quickly, a lance made of dark energy pierced through the pillar. Claudia's form, however, vanished from behind what was once her cover. Jex started running to find cover behind what pillars were left around the battlefield.

2 minutes, he taught.

"What do you gain from this? What is the point of hosting this tournament!?"

Right before Jex could make it to the pillar, a burst of fire magics impacted it and the stone was reduced to ashes. Another one came rushing at Jex as he dodged to the side.

"If you were gonna kill everyone in the tournament anyways, why even bother?"

Jex ran sideways, making sure not to step too far away from Jmarlon. He was trying to seep as much mana as possible without putting himself in too much danger. He dodged, left, right, up, down, and all around. Inferni laughed a deafening boom.

"You are nothing to me. Pawns in the scheme of it all. I could have killed everyone in this tournament in an instant. But what is fear without hope?"

As Jex dodged another fireball, he was slow to react to a lance of dark energy. It sliced his side and he could feel the pain instantly spread throughout his body. The dark magic ate away at him from the inside. He clenched his teeth and fell to the ground, writhing in pain. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

"The people look for a champion. Leagues above the rest. The best of them all. The winner of the tournament of Jmarlon. Worthy to wield one of the great weapons of the 7 Archmages of the Forgotten Past."

Jex could feel the dark magic eating away at him. It felt like it had grasped his heart and was physically crushing it in it's fist.

"The people would rejoice. The Mage of Arrows, Jexal Chronus, descendant of Eyron Cahill himself, has come to claim his place on the throne of greatest magi to have ever lived."

Jex could feel the grasp on his heart tightening. Seeping inside his organs now, flowing through his blood. He gasped for air, struggling to breathe.

"Hope. No one can challenge him. No one."

A huge grin creeped onto the face of Inferni. Jex's body tightened ever so much, pain in every inch of his being.

"Defeated. By the product of his own people's greed. Truly the sign of the end of times."

Jex's body, suddenly, went limp.

"Death comes to you all."

Inferni raised the hammer of Jmarlon and a boom of black fires emerged 10 feet above him. It grew in size, creating a ball of dark fiery magic with about a 15 ft radius. He laughed once more.

"Welcome, Jex. And goodbye."

The ball of magic sped forward and impacted the ground where Jex's body had laid down. An enormous explosion occurred as Inferni placed a magical barrier in front of him, keeping himself safe from the harms of his own spell. Smoke was everywhere and there was black fire eating away at the ground in small patches. Inferni waited for the smoke to clear and started floating down to where he found Jex's body. Scorched and unmoving. He looked down at the Mage and landed next to him. The hammer glowed a white light over the Mage's body to reveal dark magic completely filling the inside of Jex's form.

"It's such a shame it was so easy."

As Inferni moved past Jex he shouted.

"Claudia Templesmith! Your student is dead. Show yourself and surrender now or you will suffer the same fa-"

Before he could finish, he raised the hammer up, deflecting another bullet. He turned to face where it came from but moved the hammer once more, blocking another one of the bullets. He started walking towards where the bullets came from.

"There's no-"

A hand wrapped around his ankle and Inferni caught himself falling as he turned around to see a frail hand, barely holding on.

"Glacie."

Jex muttered the words, and in that instant, the dark magic that had been inside him exploded outwards and left a sheet of solid ice on everything it touched. The flames that had burned, even, were immediately extinguished upon contact with the spell. Inferni did not move as he looked down on Jex. The Mage rolled over on the ground and started coughing. He picked himself up and took scope of the surrounding. Dark magic was much more potent than regular magic and the Terra Glacie spell was enhanced by the use of it. Everything in a kilometer radius was frozen solid. He looked at Inferni, who was encased in a thick sheet of crystal clear ice, the hammer of Jmarlon still in his left hand. Jex looked at his golden irises and mustered a sigh of relief. Just as he scanned away, however, the Frozen Homonculus' pupils shifted.
