Necropalypse II DLC Aftermath

Post  Kiro Cloudwatcher on Tue Jul 11, 2017 9:15 am

Necropalypse II

River of Souls; Aftermath

(DLC)
It has been two months since the River of Souls was restored and a third Undead Invasion averted. All of the affected towns and villages have been rebuilding and repairing the damage that was done by the undead.
The undead themselves are no longer a huge threat. They are not completely gone however. Small groups of undead stragglers are a common sight in northern Centrea.

Doomy and Reganya are traveling around to clean up these lingering undead. Together they have taken over Death’s old job. In between these missions they drop by Castle Asefeyll and visit Empress Valkyria. Who also has a new job as Guardian of the River of Souls along side her normal Imperial duties.
These days she is under even more stress than ever before.

Fortunately she no longer has to do all of it alone. Her lover Roltharus is by her side most of the time. Two weeks after everything calmed down he moved into the castle temporarily. Valkyria gave him his own room. Although that is only officially where he sleeps in order to avoid a political scandal. In truth he spends most nights in the Empress her bed.

Our next story starts quietly. Doomy and Reganya are off somewhere hunting a pack of ghouls. Mioki the succubus has been left in charge of the castle in case there is an attack.
Meanwhile Rol is escorting the Empress on a visit to the town of Tanea. There they are overseeing and helping out with the rebuilding efforts in what was once the capital of the empire. Today it’s nothing more than a large town due to years of war and undead plagues. The town is on the edge of the ruins of the former city of Tanea. Far in the distance you can see the black castle towers on the other side of the ruins.
Both of them are staying in the largest inn this town has to offer. While they are here however they have to stay in separate rooms to avoid rumors.

They’ve been in this town for a few days. We find them in the inn, which is called the Boarsk Inn, downstairs where breakfast has started. It looks like it was once a fancy inn but during the undead attack parts of it caught on fire and the burn marks are still visible. The windows are still boarded up after the glass was broken. Rol has just entered the room after waking up.
Val is wearing her imperial crimson armor mostly symbolically, to show she is there to protect this town. But also partly for practical reasons because there have been monster sightings in the area recently. She has her red hair in a single long braid. She waves and gestures to Rol for him to come sit next to her at the table.

The bounty hunter entered the room with his usual coat on with the hood up, to imply a mysterious nature he certainly did not have.  He yawned. "So, what's for breakfast?"

He noticed Val gesturing at him and complied, sitting next to her.

Re: Necropalypse II DLC Aftermath

"Good morning handsome. I ordered a little bit of everything so you can choose what to eat." Val pointed at all the dishes layed out on the table in front of her. There did indeed seem to be a little bit of everything. It wasn't as luxurious as what they served at the castle though.
Bread, meat, cheese, fruit. Everything was there.

Val took a bite out of an apple and turned to Rol. "So what should we do today? We could go help rebuild the healers house. There's also that bridge that needs to be fixed. Or we could help out the town guard. There's been reports of monsters nearby so maybe we should track those down before they become a problem." She seemed to be in a good mood.

She then leans close and whispers seductively into Rol's ear. "I know you'd rather take naps all day, but the sooner we finish in this town the sooner we can go back home and do the other thing beds are made for."

Suddenly she pulls away and pretends nothing happened. Just in time for the Inn keeper to not have seen anything as he walks over to your table. "What drinks can I get you sir?" The elderly dwarven man asks Rol in a gruff voice.

Val already has her drink and takes a sip. Sneakily winking at Rol.

"Ah, I missed a prime opportunity to say 'what's cooking good looking', tragic."  Rol looked away for a moment, dramatically before returning his attention to the food. Hegrabbed one of the various cold cuts(?) and sandwiched it in between some beard and some cheese. He was famished, almost as if he hadn't eaten(or done anything) in over 3 months.

"Uh.." He started to talk, but managed to have the sense to finish eating his food first. "Monster's might be above the town's pay grade so looking into that makes the most sense. I'm also very well known for structural damage, not repair this may be relevant to which tasks I'm voting for."

The bounty hunter blushed beneath his hood. Typically he was not phased by most anything but Val somehow had found away around that. Distracted he responded to the dwarven man but with out answering the question in any form whatsoever. "Yeah that sounds good champ."

The elder dwarf isn't sure how to react. Before he can say anything Val chuckles and tells Rol the dwarf asked him what he wanted to drink. The dwarf then takes Rol's order and goes to the bar to get it.

"Well keep in mind that we do have to help wherever we can. So even if we hunt down the monsters today we'll still have to help around with the repairs tomorrow. But I agree, the monsters do seem the most urgent problem. Let's go talk to the town guard chief and ask where we should start looking for these monsters. After we're done eating of course."

"Did I ever tell you how adorable you look when you're blushing?" She asks and takes another bite out of her apple while smirking seductively at Rol.

The inn keeper brings Rol his drink. "Anything else I can help you with your highness?" He asks.

"No, we have everything we need. Thank you." Val says.

The dwarf bows respectfully and returns to his bar.

Once the both of you are done with your breakfast Valkyria goes to thank the inn keeper for the meal. But he's busy having an argument with a younger half dwarven man. You recognize him as the inn keepers son you met a few days ago.
Val shrugs and let's the two argue in peace.

The two of you then head to the town guard's hall. After a short walk the two of you enter a large building near the outer walls of the town. The first thing you notice is the broken furniture and holes in the walls. It seems they still haven't had the time to clean this place up. Being so close to the town walls the damage the undead did here was high.

As soon as you walk in a woman approaches you and bows. "Welcome your highness." The woman is human and stands taller than most people including Rol and Val. She's at least two heads taller than the Empress and wearing heavy armor with the emblem of the town guard on it. You recognize her as Eryn the Chief of the town's guard and the person currently in charge of most of the town.

(Yes cold cuts, I always forget what those are called in english. There's probably also some warm meat like bacon and sausages etc. Not that it matters because none of it is real! I just couldn't be bothered detailing which foods there were. )

Rol nodded at Val explanation. "Yeah. that does make plenty more sense." He looks towards the dwarf and finger guns. "A ginger ale (and/or this world's variation of it) would be swell bud."

"Sounds alrighty to me" Rol listened rather intently, at least intently for him. He made and subsequently devoured more of his makeshift sandwiches, then responded to the Empress' teasing. "No, but i'm sure i'll be hearing more of it." He sighed then chuckled, thanking the innkeeper for bring his drink.

As the pair traveled through the town, Rol looked around for anything out of place, or at least as out of place as something in  a town with parts that were bordering on ruined could be. As they entered the town hall, he noticed the tall lady that greeted Val. "Please pinch me before I make a "how's the weather up there comment." He said (not whispered, as he should have) to Val.

Re: Necropalypse II DLC Aftermath

(Ginger Ale is probably not a thing. But Alchemy exists so I'm sure there'd be an equivalent invented at some point in the past. We'll say that you ordered whatever that would be.)

Looking around the town Rol noticed only one thing that seemed out of place. He had seen it before because it's kind of hard to miss but it still looked odd. In the middle of the town stood a giant tower that was three times as tall as any other building in the town. It also looked much much older. At the top of this tower there was a large bell. In his short time in the town Rol had not heard the bell toll so far. But he knew it was there.

Val looked at Rol and shook her head. "I can't travel five seconds back in time to pinch you." She leaned in closer and whispered like she should. "I'll have to give you that pinch later then. If you know what I mean."

The Guard chief meanwhile let out an annoyed sigh. She did not say anything though.

After a short awkward silence Val spoke up first. "We've heard about the monster sightings near the town."

Eryn nods. "Yes. Unfortunately I do not have the men left we would need for a hunting party. We need all the men we can spare in the town itself. And we can't risk anymore of us getting killed. So I must apologize but there is nothing we can do about them for now."

"I understand. That's why we two are offering to take care of that problem for you." Val says.

"Yes, I- What?!" Eryn looks shocked for a moment but then regains her composure. "Your Highness these woods are dangerous you'll need more than two people for this."

Val shrugs. "I'm your Empress for a reason. Unless there's a Dragon hiding in those woods we'll be fine. Although a dragon hiding in those woods would be an impressive display of stealth. Considering most dragons are almost larger than the entire woods out there."

"Your Highness I.. I apologize. I shouldn't have questioned you." She bows her head.

"You don't need to apologize. I understand your concern. We'll take care of your monster problem. Any idea where we should start looking and what we're looking for exactly?"

"Yes. We've had the men who saw the monsters point out where they saw them." She hands Val a map with a location circled East of the town. "We aren't sure what you'll find there though. All the reports mention is eyes. Too many eyes."

"That could be a lot of things." Val looks over the map for a few seconds. "I guess we'll find out more once we get there. Let's go." She says to Rol.

She then thanks the guard chief and heads out. Eryn's expression gives away her worries that she thinks this might be a reckless and bad idea.

(ginger ails, medicine for ppl allergic to ginger. Also there's definitely a bell bottom jean pun in that bell tower appearance but i can't find it)

"Actually I don't know what you mean. I absolutely understand it's a less than appropriate innuendo, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it could specifically mean. One of the great mysteries of the world really." The bounty hunter rambled in response to Val.

"Do you think the monster will SEE us coming from a mEYEle away? EYE can't believe such a horror lurks nearbEYE. I'm a little afraid mEYEself" Rol spat out pun after pun, far too pleased with himself.

He waved to Eryn. "No worries, we'll be golden." Then he followed after Val.

Rol loses 6 exp for each of those puns.

Val and Rol walk through the town and head over to the place on the map. Clouds are gathering in the sky above them. Making it rather dark around them as soon as they enter the forest. The path they were following soon comes to a stop and they are forced to find their way through the short trees and bushes.

"The monsters were last seen somewhere in that direction." Val points east. "It'll probably be half an hour walk. Guess we have some time to ourselves now."

However as soon as she says that they're face to face with a gigantic snail the size of a minivan as it emerges from a small pond. Its two eye tentacles flash in vibrant colors at Rol and Val.
For some reason you can't look away from the shiny colors.

"The real question is, does it blend? how hostile is it?" Rol asked, mesmerized by the hypno-snail. "It's the size of a minivan, whatever a minivan is" His guns were drawn, but they weren't aimed anywhere except the the ground I suppose.

As soon as Rol asks if it's hostile the snail shoots a yellow acidic liquid at them. Val's armor protects her from the acid. Rol is less lucky and it soaks through his clothes, he can feel it burning on his skin.

"That answers that question, I guess." Val says as she draws her black sword. She then casts a spell and creates a small shadow barrier between the two of you and the Snail.

"You okay?" she asks.

The pain helps to distract you long enough that you can look away from the eyes now. Val on other hand still has her eyes fixed on the colorful lights despite the shadow barrier.

(You are okay, it just hurts and you might want to puts some water on it later, or a healing potion. Probably both.)

"No worries, it's like a tickle, a very painful tickle, but a tickle."  Rol had aimed his guns at the snail, ready for combat, being wary of the pretty colours. "How about you, kinda look distracted." He referred to Val's fixation.

The bounty hunter tossed a mini explosive in the pond, but activated it as it hit the water surface, an attempt to distract the distractor and, as an afterthought, hopefully not attract more.

"I'm fine. Just a little hard to look away from those eyes. I can still move fine." Val answers.
She then slowly steps away from the snail. Trying to break eye contact.

When Rol detonates the explosive the snail freaks out and starts to withdraw into it's giant shell. It takes a long time though.

Val is freed from her fixation when the Snail's eyes withdraw. She shakes her head and rapidly blinks her eyes. "That was weird. I'm alright now, just gotta adjust my eyes to normal light again."

She frowns and looks at the Snail who is still retreating into it's shell. "What should we do with this thing. It's probably not the monster we're looking for. But if it uses those eyes on one of the townspeople they might not be so lucky as we were." She says while lowering her sword.

"Usually, I would suggest keeping it as a pet, but it would be very difficult to find a terrarium/aquarium(whichever one a snail would use) that would fit it." Rol sighed in contemplation. He looked over the creature, it was too large for Rol to bind with his shadows as a permanent solution.

"I mean there's always escargo if it comes down to it. OR you can decree all townspeople have to were reflective sunglasses and issue an acid proof town uniform"

"I don't imagine it would make a very good pet either. Unless you can train it to keep those hypno eyes off. Which I doubt it's smart enough to do." Val Shrugs.

Val shook her head when Rol suggested sunglasses and acid proof uniforms. "We don't have the funds for that."

She paused for a moment and sighed. "The easiest solution would be to just kill it. And warn the town just in case it has eggs somewhere."

She scratches her head. "How about a giant shadow slingshot. We can fire it as far away from the town as possible. This thing moves too slow to get back anytime soon. It'll probably survive the fall in that shell.. maybe. That way everyone is happy. Probably."

The snail has now completely retreated into it's giant shell.

"I don't think I could train any animal/monster to do anything so that's a bust." Rol nodded at Val's budget comment, acknowledging her concern.

"As per usual death is always optimal. And i'm not sure about the slingshot unless we know exactly where we're aiming. Plus the slingshot aesthetic is soo last year." Rol approached the snail shell, onguard of course. "Think the real baddie would eat something like this? Use it as bait?"

"We have no clue what the monster we're hunting actually is. I'm not dragging this thing half across the woods on the small chance our monster likes overgrown french cuisine." Val shook her head.
"Not to mention that by the time we find our target this thing might have come back out of it's shell. Then we have to deal with both of them at once. So if we do plan on using it as bait it should be dead. Which means either way we have to kill this thing." She shrugs.

"So unless you've got any other ideas." She says a few words in demonic and a flame appears in her hand. "Let's cook some escargot."

(what even is a french cuisine? France does not exist in Val. But the joke wouldn't work otherwise. Good thing Valkyria has broken the fourth wall before. So at least its consistent.)

(definitely time to retcon French into Val)

"PETA's gonna go crazy." Rol started to manipulate the shadows inside the shell, trying to pull the snail creature back into the open. "Hey snail thing, if you can speak, please don't it'll make me feel real bad about the whole cooking you thing."

"They already are." Val says after the PETA comment.

Rol manages to partly pull out the snail. Unfortunately this also means one of it's eyes is out. It blinks a few times before the colors start to come back.
Both Rol and Val manage to avoid looking at the lights this time.

Val throws her flame at the exposed part of the snail. But the snail pulls itself inside for a second. Long enough for the flame to hit it's shell instead. It just leaves a slight scorch mark.
Rol then yanks the snail back out as far as it was before.

"Oh for fucks sake. Does this thing want us to season it first or something?"

"VALid point, crazier I guess."

Rol quickly averted his gaze as the snail eye popped out in hypno mode, which was probably actually its only mode.

"I'm guessing it wants to live, BUT I could be wrong. BTW this might be gross." The bounty hunter said as he searched for an opening in the shell to toss one of his explosives in.

"Someone seems to be in a pun mood today." Val chuckled.

Rol manages to toss the explosive before he looks at the light. But the snail pulls free of the shadows, the explosive bounces off the shell and lands in the water. The explosion does no damage. Rol is fixated by the light again.

Val lunges forward and slashes the eye stalk off with her black sword. The colors fade from it as it falls in the water and Rol is freed from the fixation.
The snail screeches in pain and its other eye emerges. Val is too close by to look away in time and now she is fixated again.
"Fuck, this thing is annoying."

"My wordplay's just on time today, you know.. PUNctual."

Rol's explosive harmlessly landing in the water was rather irksome. "Yeah, I am not a fan of our mollusk friend."

Once again 'hypnotized' by the creature, Rol's shadows detach due to the distraction, luckily Val came to his rescue. He sought to return the favour and shot a bullet at the snails remaining eye.

Rol shoots but the snail's eye is moving around too much and he hits the eye stalk instead. The snail keeps screeching in pain. The lights start flashing more erratically.

Val tries to look away but can't. She tries to swing her sword but because she's fixated on the eye she doesn't notice the tree root in front of her, she trips and falls.

"Ow!"

Because she fell she broke eye contact with the snail and is free again. But she's also on the ground.

The Snail spits acid on her. "Fuck! That stings. You were right, that's a very painful tickle." She says as she crawls away from the snail.

"Yeah, gonna have to get that checked out."

Rol created a wall of shadow between the snail and them.

"I'm not liking how today's starting if I'm being honest. Do snails shrivel up when there's a salt on them? Can we get enough salt for this thing?" Rol reloaded both his guns, with real bullets.

"Well I'm certainly feeling very salty right now." Val said as she got back on her feet.

The snail spit out more acid but the shadow wall blocked it.

"Mind if I borrow that shadow wall for a bit?" She walks up to the wall and puts her hand on it. She then chants a spell and the wall turns into a liquid darkness wave that rolls right over the snail.
When the shadows return to normal the snail is gone.

Val lets out a deep sigh. "I didn't want to use the big guns on that thing but that was just getting ridiculous. Let's rest a bit before we keep going."

She sits down on a nearby tree stump. "Let's not tell Eryn about this. In fact lets never talk about snails again. I'm taking escargot off the castle menu as soon as we get back."
