He has to go through various processes to do things. For example, should he need fire, he would have to click his fingers a number of times as he manipulates the sound energy into heat energy and gather flammable gases in the air to catch from the heat to create fire, all of which has to be done at the same time and may take a away, depending on how much heat energy he may need to start it. Because, you know, if he were in a cold area, he would need a lot of heat to disperse the cold enough to allow the gases he wishes to light to catch on fire.)
Roltharus wrote:(Yeah, I know, you explained that in your post already, didn't you? It's just there are hella shadows, that's was all I'm saying.)

His powers aren't even magic. (magic in Val is defined as a person using mana to perform spells. Rol doesn't use mana. Just a technicality but yeah..) Really the entire point of ChaoZ is being OP. Its like super heroes in a fantasy magi-tech setting. Herst is Batman but with powers and Rol is.. uh deadpool but with shadow powers and no regenerating.
As for the Empress, she does use magic but her spell (move) pool is limited. And she doesn't really have any close combat abilities. But you don't know that yet.)
Roltharus wrote:(Plus Rol can't create shadows [although he can also just manipulate darkness in general, but that's a more difficult process], he requires them to already exist, with the exception of his Six and Cole I guess. Dunno about Uh. Empress lady.)

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Herst also isn't using this world's magic.
But yes, because he is not native to Val, he has a harder time controlling his magic, which I am going to mention when I have time to edit posts. But yeah, if it weren't for his pre-enchanted gear that he prepared, he'd be a weight upon the group. But unlike the rest of you, BECAUSE he isn't from Val, he isn't as binded in the laws of what his magic can do.
But his sense of mana is really his way of saying that he can feel the inner power of individuals. Herst is too powerful that he can't sense the power of others unless they are insanely strong as him as he leaks his magical influence and clouds his sense.
But that leak is why he can manipulate things around him, like the shadows. Again, by not being bound to the rules of magic in Val, unless Kiro and I have a massive discussion about the way magic in both our worlds work and reach a conclusion, I doubt that anyway can wrest control of whatever Herst is manipulating.
Anyway, it was either bury everyone into the ground but manipulating it or by leaving a small amount of evidence that a battle even took place. I went with the later because I feel that Herst shouldn't fit into the group off the bat but seem to stand out for his different methods on how he accomplishes his tasks.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Agreed, I was too lazy to make it myself.Roltharus wrote:This thread is a good idea.
As for how magic works in Val, I should really write that down somewhere. I've written down the different kinds of energy and a general description but not the specifics of how they work.
I would do it in the google docs but not many people read them..
So I might as well just write it here and copy paste it to the docs later and expand them there.
Since it's kind of important in this rp. And any future ones probably. (Elves not so much yet.)
I'll start with actual magic as it's called in Val. The use of mana by a person. (person being any of the races of Val.) As opposed to Mana being used by a non sentient machine (scott and other robots count as a person.)
As most of Val's technology is powered by crystalized mana. Since it's so abundant.
Using magic is a pretty simple concept in Val. It's similar to Chakra in naruto (because I was still a big fan of it back when I started thinking about how magic would work in Val)
Except it doesn't require molding. The first thing young mages learn is to concentrate it toghether, which does take a while to master for most kids.
From there just like in Naruto you can learn how to manipulate it's shape and/or element. As mana users don't really manipulate elements but the energy itself. It's the energy that takes on the charasteristics of the element.
A good example in Val itself is Jex. He's mastered the shaping of mana arrows and can change the element of those arrows. But he can only use a few elements. If he wants to learn a different kind of shape he needs to master the basic non elemental version first before he can start experimenting with the elements.
Az is the opposite, she sticks to one element, fire. But changes it's shape drastically with every different spell she has. (except the upgrades of former spells.)
There is more than one way to manipulate mana but the two easiest ones are with spell words (like Jex) or with symbols, like Az. (mages use words, witches use symbols. Witches also use alchemy which is another form of magic where mana is used in chemistry. Creating all kinds of potions and such. Ziome has a real knack for it, Az just has more experience with it but Ziome is catching up quickly in that part. She struggles with the mana shaping though. So her actual magic spells are limited to healing.
So she just throws explosive potions in combat while riding her flying broom. (infused with a lot of mana. It also acts as a magic staff)
A last note on Mana is that it's the energy of emotions. Which might seem weird since inanimate objects can be infused with it. Which could be compared to an object having emotional value to someone but then again not really..
As for mages they need to learn to control their emotions to properly control mana, which is why it's so hard for first time students. Az lacks some control of her emotions which means she burns through her mana supply more quickly than she should.
Although her time with ChaoZ is slowly helping her be less angry all the time. Which is why she managed to learn how to use blue fire (more efficient than normal red/orange fire. the next stage being white fire is still way out of her reach.)
The less control over your emotions the more destructive your spells are but they could also backfire more easily. With Az it's mostly anger but other emotions have similar effects. Which is why the strongest mages are ussually see as grumpy old men. even though they aren't grumpy at all most of the time. And the ones that are fuel their magic through grumpiness.. I think.. Grumpy cat is the best magician cat ever, true fact.
(Some argue that this is why machines are a better way to use mana, since machines lack emotion and are therefore safer to use. Easier too. )
This is starting to get too long.. I'll have to do the other energies later.
Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
In my stories, magic power comes from a generally inert energy that dwells within ones mind. As Emotion affects thought, that much can be similar. But each able person that can use magic, does so in different methods that they seem to be different magics, So Demons that use magic wield it differently than say HUman, Angels, Harpies and Gods who all use it differently than the other as well.
With Herst as an exception in that he merely has to infuse will in the energy that leaks out of him to use magic, as he has no fine control when he actually uses his inner energy, Magic is achieved by inflicting ones will infused with that energy and control it the entire time that spell needs to take place unless they have a large amount of such energy to tie it to objects.
This energy is called Magic on the grounds all schools of thought that have different names for inner energies have been verified by practitioners that also wield Magic as different energies.
For those interested, I based my magic workings on Kei from the Chromed Shelled Regios light novels (Because they went more indepth than the Anime, as per usual.) but with the latest influences from Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (Both ANime and Light Novel), the Tales of games and anime and Fairy Tail (Anime and Manga).

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
In Val different races just use different energies. But theoretically they can use all 5. Practically one person only uses two kinds ever. Mostly because otherwise mary sues that can use everything happen. <.<
As for the energy being in a persons mind that's more akin to PSI in Val.
Which is a relatively newly discovered energy and not widely used.
It's uses are also very limited in that you only control the energy directly. For example telekinesis works by wrapping an object in PSI energy and then moving the energy with the object inside. Heavier objects require more PSI.
So yeah, it's kinda like your magic, it comes from the same place. And theoretically a PSI user can do some of the stuff herst can. Like making fire by making molecules move faster with their energy (pyrokinesis). Or causing storms with a similar principle. (electrokinesis)
In fact it's more similar than I first thought lol. Aside from the blood magic and masks and other trinkets.
But they can only manipulate physical things. Shadows are not one of those as they're merely places where less light reaches. They could however manipulate photons and make it darker but they can't attack with that darkness. They can make a laser or something with those photons though, but I imagine that would be extremely hard.
(TL;DR , Photokinesis yes, Umbrakinesis no)
But they can also use the energy to attack by firing a wave of it at an opponent. They can also tap into other people's minds and mindscrew them literally. But that can backfire as seen in necro 1 where someone tried to do this to Rol and saw things he wasn't supposed to see. He ended up catatonic. (His name was Luch and he's dead now, maybe.)
Unfortunatly we don't have a PSI user yet. Rol uses his mind but not PSI.
Due to the demon he "fused" with. Which makes the PSI mix with the demons spirit energy (the main energy of demons and angels etc. except theres three kinds of it but more on that later.) And form another energy. Which I call Ib (might change it's name, it's egyptian so meh.) Which is a whole other set of rules. Reganya also got "fused" with a demon and probably uses Ib too but I'm kinda doubting wether it's Ib or another mixed energy. But for now assume she uses the same energy as Rol.
Final note on PSI :
It's difference with mana is that while it can manipulate the elements it can only use stuff that's already there. While mana can be infused with darkness and light and use it , PSI can pretty much only make a pretty light show.
It's better at other elements.
TL;DR: Mana is fantasy magic, PSI is sci-fi psionics.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Something different:
Necro and Elves are both part of different larger storylines. Both are just starting and will get many follow up Rp's.
First there's the Undeath storyline. Which is basically all the necro's.
And secondly theres the Ancient war storyline which only just started up with Elves.
Here's the time line I have planned out so far:
Undeath storyline
1.Necropalypse (on the old site)
Necropalypse part II (on this site)
2.Necropalypse: Aftermath
5.Untitled Undeath RP
(Involving Endo even though he's a half demon.
And you'd think he'd be in the Ancient war storyline.
But no. Also I remember Rol asking about Endo figuring
out what happened to his mother once.
At least I thought it was Rol. Could be wrong.
Anyway, he'll find out in this RP.)
*That tournament RP we had once never got very far and was just bleh. So it's never coming back.

Man, worldbuilding is so fucking cool.
I am contemplating making Rol hit on The Empress.
But can't decide if the reasoning should be to annoy Deathy or otherwise.

..I'm not sure how to feel about that. On one hand it would be funny as hell. On the other hand if it works..
"Roltharus the lightbulb, Emperor of Valkyrea, Lord of the shadowlands and former bounty hunter."
I really am having trouble picturing that. The kids would be adorable though.
Also I forgot to mention another RP that I have plans for. It would probably be in the ancient war storyline. Involving possible Angelic technology being found. But I don't have much planned for that yet aside from the event that starts it.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
I should probably move all things I have to Google drive so I can acces them easily once my new laptop manages to get connected to the internet. But I'll probably be too lazy..
Also I forgot to mention that each energy has a race connected to it. Mana has the Fairies and PSI has the Asteri (I still need to introduce those and do concept art. But I think that can wait as they're not introduced in the storylines yet.)
Spirit energy is the next energy I'll discuss. It has three different forms and therefore three different races connected to it. Demons, Angels and the Undead. They all work similarly but are used slightly differently.
Demons are the most diverse and give a good example of how spirit energy can be used, so I'll start with them.
Each demon race can use the energy in it's own unique way. The bloodwolves use it to shapeshift. At first they can only shapeshift from their true gigantic wolf form to a humanoid form. In their true form they can also release a powerful beam of spirit energy from their mouth.
To gain a new form the bloodwolves must first taste the soul of whatever they're trying to turn into. After that changing into it is easy. To "taste the soul" of something is usually done by tasting their blood, which usually happens whenever they eat prey.(Which is why these demons represent the sin of gluttony)
They can only use the spirit beam in a form as large or larger than their true wolf form.
The only blood wolf to appear thus far was Satra, Kiro's wife. She could turn into many things. Including a dragon (which was why she was freakishly over powered.) and a human form. (Which is kinda disturbing if you think about how she got that form..)
The second demons are the succubi. They use spirit energy by draining it fom their victims. I shouldn't have to tell you HOW they drain it. You already know. (This is why they represent Lust.)
However they can also GIVE spirit energy. You'll have to use your imagination to figure out how that works. This way they can heal people too.
The third ones are the Asura. They represent greed, which is why they have so many limbs. (Pure Asura have four arms. When they breed with another species the doubled limb may change. For example Endo's mother was half succubi and half asura. Instead of Four arms she had four wings.)
As for how they use their spirit energy eh I'm still trying to figure that one out. But maybe they grow ANOTHER set of arms? Or they just fire it at their target or maybe they use it to become a supersaiyan asura. ..dunno
The fourth demons are the Jinn. They represent pride because they think they're better than everyone else. They can turn their bodies into pure demonic spirit energy. In this form they can fly around freely. When they do this they look a lot like a ball of fire which is why they're often mistaken for being fire elementals.
In their energy form they can also possess things and people. Which makes it hard to fight them.
Reganya can possess people and things just like them. But unlike them she can't turn into pure energy. She needs something solid to keep herself from dissipating. When she's not possessing anything it's her old human body that keeps her solid. But her old body is dying. Luckily for her because her soul is fused with the Jinn she also keeps healing. She's basically always dying and regenerating. (Which is why the patterns on her swirl around. However she heals so fast that all you see is the color changing from dark purple to her normal skin color. No rotting skin.)(Maybe I should just have her use spirit energy unmixed..nah because her backstory is too similar to Rol's for it not to be the same energy.)
Fifth ones are the Oni. They represent wrath, they get angry very easily. Their anger causes their souls to expand and they themselves grow with it. They become small when not angry, but that's rare and they tend to hide when they're small.
Sixth ones are the Tengu. They represent envy and try to steal things, especially valuable stuff. They can also steal spirit energy and use it to disguise themselves as whatever they stole the spirit energy from. However they can only steal a little bit and therefore they can't actually shapeshift, it's only an illusion to fool people.
And lastly theres the Jotunn. They represent Sloth because they never really do anything. If they do have to fight however they're just that big that they can just stomp whatever threatens them. They don't even need to use their spirit energy so they almost never do. (I haven't decided what they even would do if they did use it. Probably the same as what the angels do.)
Angels and undead version will have to come later because this was long again.

All teh political allies!

No, just some doubts about the power she uses. Ib is supposed to manipulate one element or two elements combined and only in a specific way. Like you use your shadows but another Ib user with the same element (darkness) would use it differently.
Like one old character of mine would use Ib (earth element) and summon two wolves, one wolf made of sand and the other of rocks. But he wouldn't be able to cause an earthquake. He only controls the wolves.
With Reganya I'm just not sure which element(s) she uses to do what she does. So I was thinking about explaining her powers differently but..(she wouldn't get new powers, same power but different source) She was fused with a demon in almost the same circumstances as Rol. So it makes more sense for it to be the same energy powering them.
Any other energy combinations are iffy. Spirit plus ki would give chakra but aside from stealing it from naruto I don't have any rules for it yet and I kind of don't like that it's straight from naruto. But It still fits because the explanation of how chakra works in naruto says they use body energy (equivalent of Ki) and experience (pretty much same as saying it comes from the soul which is spirit energy) to mold chakra.
Then again maybe I should find something else to put here but eh.
But combining spirit with Mana means there's three different possible outcomes:
With demonic spirit you get Doom energy
With angelic spirit you get Holy energy
and with undeath spirit you get Ectoplasm
Since I'm not gonna change her backstory (She isn't undead and Angels were long extinct by the time she was born so neither of those work.)
And doom energy is used by half demons only. (Endo. Even though I used to say Doomy could also use it because of his father, he never seems to actually use it anyway and he can't have both. Because of the fused energies count as two rule.)
Plus if I use mana that would have to mean reganya learned magic before she died. (Why else would her mana be strong enough to fuse with the demon?)
But I don't feel it fits her story with her country being destroyed by war, when would she learn magic? Especially since magic was part of the reason behind the war in the first place.
The last one is technology but that would change her back story too. Instead of fusing with the demon herself it would be a piece of technology that's keeping her alive with the demon's soul. Which could work if I ever get that ChaoZ in space thing going.
But that would change her design so it doesn't work for the current Reganya.(If I put her character in an eventual ChaoZ in space this would be her backstory. Where she then can only possess technology but technology would be all around so it wouldn't change much. Unless she ends up on a planet without tech.)
The only energy left is PSI. And that means Ib.
I just don't know which element. What element would allow possession?
Body? Eh that would't explain ho she posses inanimate objects.
Soul? Using Ib (soul+mind) to control the element of soul is a bit redundant i think?
Death? Could work since she's constantly dying. But does it explain the possessing? Not really but it could work if she also has another element but again possessing things is what element?
(Btw most of what I've written so far is more me trying to figure this stuff out than explaining anything.)
Death and soul? That might work..still kind of redundant but the added element of death kinda makes it feel better.
Oh that reminds me. I've changed some of the elements recently. I was bothered by one group of elements (virus, germ, bug, beast). The bug was a thing I put in the original element version (years ago when I first made a list of elements. Because I was unhappy with the list in Pokemon, earth and rock are the goddamn same element why the hell would they be a different one. And time and space were missing so I came up with one of my own. I was like..11?)
Eventually I replaced dragon with chaos and order, I kicked out sound (which I had originally put in because naruto when I was 15-ish) and struggled to replace it until I settled on Mass.
But the bug element still.. bugged me. Not sure wether that pun was intentional or not.
And so did the rest of the group. I mean Beast could work but virus and germs? really? At best those are one element but I didn't know what to replace them with.
Until like last week.
In my Cloudverses the Intrusion (fear of bugs) stands for rebirth. Because bugs fit the rebirth theme rather well. (Caterpillar to butterfly and the dung beetles in egypt were a rebirth god with the dung ball representing the sun.. <.< I know that explenation stinks but so do those dung balls.)
So Bug element became rebirth element
Germ element became life element.
Virus element became death element.
And Beast element was discarded for an afterlife element.
I still have my doubts about this new group but it fits better than the old group.
TL;DR:
This rant only contains two things of importance. Reganya's elements are Death and Soul and she does indeed use Ib.
And the old group of elements with bug, virus, germ and beast has been replaced by the group of Rebirth, life, death and afterlife.
And now you know how my brain works.. All that stuff for two conclussions.(And a possible idea for reganya in ChaoZ in space.)
-
No, just some doubts about the power she uses.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Wow that was hella indepth.
Soul death seems to be the best combination for sure.
The Virus/Germ would have been cool, but entirely too painstaking if they stayed that specific.

Made a thing, the elements and their relation to each other. Obviously still needs some work.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Allow me to explain the interaction between Rol and Herst's emotional turmoil in the way I understand it.
I imagine Herst's telepathy doesn't replace group's current emotion with his emotional turmoil rather his what, demi-god? I guess, strength causes the emotions to be projected towards the others because overwhelming strength + overwhelming emotion and therefore it overshadows the groups. It's not like we became Herst, we just add his extreme emotions to our current state of minds. Or rather, stress that will equate the turmoil in Herst's mind is place on the group's mind.
Through this chaos and turmoil persist without any way of preventing it because the soul link gives direct entry from Herst's mind to everyone else's so defenses are useless.
The only way of dealing with the emotions would be how each individual of the group personally handles that much stress. So, Rol's particular mindfuckedupness works in his favour as he's constantly dealing with all of his emotions at once without an proper distinction or barrier between them so he remains unaffected.

Ummm.... Telepathy is having a link between two minds, right? And Herst's links that he controls are flooded with his emotions as he pulls up memories related to him from the connected minds.
There is a way to defend, except the overwhelming fear Herst feels would brush them aside unless they had a loooot of practice defending from multiple fronts... Because in Herst state where he is disconnected from his body, his mind doesn't need to rest where as his body does.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Isn't that what Rol is saying? His character has had to deal with similar shit for years coming from just his own mind. One more wouldn't make much difference, even if it's one as powerfull as Hersts.
Reganya is also able to resist as she is used to possessing and supressing the thoughts of other beings to take control of them. (The synchronizing with Doomy is different because she doesn't need to control him.) This time it's only slightly different as shes not possessing anything. But its still similar enough.
Val on the other hand will probably not be able to handle it from this close. As an empress her minds been strenghtened to avoid mind control which is why the SL only gave her a headache at first. But at this close range she won't be able to defend herself.
At least untill Herst calms down, which he seems to have done(I think).
So my only question is, what would be best? Leaving the soul link next to Hersts body or taking it along for possible telepathical dialogue?
I've got some Ideas for how to pass the time while Herst rests so that won't be a problem. Well it will be a problem for all the people dying outside but not for the RP lol.
But if they leave the soul link behind then Dean wouldn't be able to post (again) for a while.
But I'm assuming that now that Herst knows he's not dead the telepathic fear spreading has ceased? So taking the soul link along wouldn't be a problem, right?

He can use magic in his form, but that's it. He just won't be much help anymore aside from empowering the group.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
Kk Just wanted to know if interaction would still be possible.
I'm going to have to do some plotting for this part since I was planning on the final fight happening after the lemures. But it's better this way, I just hadn't planned it to go this way so I need to figure out some stuff. But I'll update tomorow for sure.

Re: Necropalypse: The Aftermath - Discussion
I'm really stuck on this battle, trying to make it somewhat interesting but bleh. Also wtf Dean. Riaden and Cervea are obviously close range fighters, telling them to not get too close doesn't make sense.
I also need to plan out what happens in between now and whenever Doomy wakes up. Leaning towards him NOT waking up by himself and everyone trying to find a way to get him out of his coma. But what has to happen to wake him up? No idea yet.
Like I said before I wasn't planning this filler. The final battle was planned after the lemures. Which was obviously way too soon anyway. Plus now I can show the effects the undead are having on Centrea. Which is good but I lack planning for this part.
