 You send out Nidowin.
The crystal onix screeches. Lowering Az and Nidowin's defense.
Az fires an ember but the shiny surface reflects the attack, almost hitting the cyndaquil who fired it.
"Are you kidding me?"
NidoWin leaps at the onix and hits it with it's poisoned horn. It hurts the Crystal onix.

 "If I had one I would have used it from the start of this battle. I'll have Az distract it while you focus on attacking."
The onix throws a crystal rock at Nidowin but Az bumps into the crystal and makes it hit her instead. It's not fairy effective. But it still hits her hard.
Az then releases a smokescreen from her snout. Making it hard for the onix to see and reducing its accuracy.
Nidowin bursts through the smokescreen and rams his poisoned horn into the crystal onix again. It hurts the onix.

 "Haven't encountered many pokemon with a type advantage over fire yet. The Geodude in this cave were the first ones and they're weak. This onix is a different story though."

The crystal onix Screeches and lowers Az and Nido's defense further.
Az released another smokescreen, blinding the crystal onix more.
Nido jumps at the Onix and scratches it with his horn, not doing much damage but poisoning it. The poison hurts the onix.

 The onix rages and roars, slamming its head at Az. She is hit but only slightly.

"I was planning on watching a battle to find out what I was up against. Then I'd go find and train a pokemon based on what I saw in the battle. But I guess I found exactly what I need."
Mii says as she looks at the Crystal onix.

Az releases another smokescreen reducing the Onix's field of vision even more.
Nidowin burst through the smokescreen and lands a critical hit with his poisoned horn. The Onix's rage increases its attack.
The poison hurts it.

"Seriously? A magikarp?"

 The onix Throws a crystal at Nidowin but Az bumps it away. Damaging herself a bit. Its not faivery effective. The onix has calmed down.

"Thanks for the info captain obvious. I was talking about specifics. How does he fight, what moves does he use, how strong are his pokemon, etc. Sometimes a type advantage isn't enough."

"Az, leer!" The cyndaquil nods and jumps out from the smokescreen to leer at the onix, reducing it's defense.
NidoWin follows up and lands a direct hit with his poisoned horn on the distracted onix.
It hurts the onix and so does the poison.

"I guess a gyarados would be worth the blood,tears and flailing."

"I suppose assuming makes an ass out of you and me, but as a gym leader you can imagine his choices would have the intelligence of keeping to his pokemon's strengths. Defense being number the number one stat for his pokemon generally. Type says worlds more than the type advantage, it lets you know stats, moveset, etc."

Poison sting-ito again.


The onix screeches and reduces Nido's and Az's defense further.

"Imagine being a gym leader. A wise gym leader might decide to subvert their challengers expectations. Maybe they teach their pokemon a move to deal with their weakness. Maybe they use a pokemon with an unexpected double typing. That would catch most trainers off guard. I'd rather not be one of those trainers."

Az leers again dropping the onix's defense too.

"But your points are generally correct. That's why gym leaders that don't follow the general trend are so dangerous. Maybe dangerous isn't the right word but you get what I mean."

Nidowin goes for another poison sting. He gets a hit in despite almost slipping.
The onix is hurt by poison.

"True, unexpected dual types are something to be weary of, and in that the different move to cover weakness. But without the dual type the move strategy is pree weak. Considering the powerspike a pokemon get when using a same type move."


The onix's tail shoots out of the water and grabs nidowin binding and squeezing him.
Az leers again lowering the onix defense again.
Nidowin attempts to sting the onix's tail. Being up close Nidowin easily jabs his poisoned horn at the onix. But the squeezing hurts him.
The poison hurts the onix.

"The powerspike is an important factor indeed. But the different type move can still throw an inexperienced trainer off. Not that I'd be affected by that. But it would be a big problem if I catch a pokemon to deal with Brock and it gets taken out by such a move and all I'd have left would be Az. A possible solution would be to catch two pokemon. But then I'd have to buy extra pokeballs. And I have a limited budget.
Which is why I wanted to observe a battle first."

Nidowin struggles and gets free. The onix tries to catch him again but misses completely. Az quick attacks the onix while its distracted. It's not very effective but its a direct hit.
Nidowin runs along the onix's back and lands a critical hit near the back of its head.
The poison hurts the onix.

Mii shrugs. "Why worry about time? I'm not in any hurry to get anywhere. And watching other trainers battle is a good way to learn."

Mii grabs one of her pokeballs and throws it at the crystal onix. It is sucked into the ball and the ball splashes into the water. The ball rolls through the water before making a ping sound.

"Hell yeah. A good thing pokeballs are waterproof. But how am I gonna get it out of the water..."

"Hey! Who said you could catch it? Nido did just as much as your cyndaquil." Shelly objected.
"I did say I was going to try and catch it earlier. Your boyfriend didn't object or try to catch it himself. So when I saw my chance I took it."
"..I guess.."

Brock walks up to the trainers. "Thanks, you two did a great job fighting that onix."

Mii raises an eyebrow. "That sounds an awfull lot like you're saying you're a better trainer than me. I'll just assume/pretend it wasn't meant that way."

Brock looks like he's thinking about something, but you can't really tell because his eyes seem to be permanently closed or something. "How did you guys find this place though?"

"My grandfather's.. I mean professor Oak's aid told us about it."
"Ah right, I was supposed to meet up with her."

"Your grandfather is professor Oak?"
Shelly nodded.
"Anyway we should get out of here now that the onix is taken care of."
"Right."

Brock leads everyone out of the cave safely. All pokemon seemed to have ran, leaving this part of the caves eerily empty as the fog is the only thing creeping through it.
You all go and get your pokemon healed up at the pokecenter.
There Brock tells you about how a week or two ago the local pokemon started getting restless. Shortly after he went to take a look in the cave and saw the fog in the lower levels.
Two days ago pokemon began running out of the cave. The fog had also spread higher up. So he called professor Oak about it and asked for his help to investigate.
But when he was supposed to meet Aida he heard loud roars coming from way below. So he went in to check it out. That's when he saw the Crystal Onix.
He figured the onix was what was causing the pokemon to flee. So he wanted to calm it down but then it attacked him.

Shelly brings up the fog in the forest being similar. Nobody seems to know what's going on and if they're connected.

After talking more about the situation over lunch the gym leader returns to his gym. "I'll be looking forward to your challenge." He says before leaving.
Mii also leaves after saying she was gonna test her new pokemon out against the local wildlife.

You could go challenge brock now. You also remember having a clefairy in need of evolving for Aida's quest. Maybe do that in secret, Shelly might disapprove.
Maybe you should buy some extra potions or other supplies before taking on brock.

You tell Shelly that you talked to Aida and agreed to catch a clefairy and evolve it for her. Shelly divorces you and takes half your money. Shelly gets upset but you say Aida said she'd give you a HM Flash. And you thught you probably gonna need it eventually. This calms her down but she still disapproves. You lose some relationship points with Shelly.

You then go to Hell the pc to withdraw clefairy. You switch out Toothless for it.
You grab your moonstone and call out the clefairy. You apply the moonstone directly to the forehead. The Clefairy starts to glow and evolves! Congrats you now have a clefable.

You then go look for Aida. She is sitting in the lunch room of the pokecenter. You can hear Shelly grumbling at the sight of the lab assistant. You shrug it off and walk over to her with the clefable.

"Ah, I see you have completed my request. Thank you. It isn't often you get a chance to see a clefable. I hope you didn't have to lok too hard?"

You say no, you just kinda stumbled upon it. Aida responds with a chuckle. "You must have a high luck stat then." She paused. "Oh right, did you find the gym leader?"
You nod and tell her the short version of what happened.
"A crystal onix? Fascinating. Do you know where I can find the trainer who caught it? I would love to see it."
You say you aren't sure where Mii went but she wouldn't be far. After all she was going to challenge the gym leader, eventually.
"I should probably go to the gym too. I still have bussiness with the gym leader."
She gets up from her seat after finishing her drink.
"Oh, right. Almost forgot your reward." She smiles at you, reaches into her lab coat and hands you a HM flash. Then she nods and walks away.
Your relationship with Aida levels up! You are now kinda friends you guess?

Shelly can still be heard grumbling under her breath.

You go back to the pc and exchange clefable for Toothless the zubat. What next?

You walk out the outside of town and start searching for pokemon. A rattata is the first thing you see.

The butterfree uses confusion. It tries to slam Kiro into a tree but he breaks free and avoids a full impact.

Kiro Jumps at the butterfree, twists around strikes it with his tail making it flinch, he flies past the butterfree lands against a tree and jumps back towards the butterfree, hitting it from behind. It's a critical hit!
The butterfree is knocked out completely, Kiro gains exp.

The female nidoran tries to tackle psyche but only grazes her.

And Psyche uses confusion on the female. She breaks free before hitting a tree but falls on her head and is knocked out anyway. It was super effective!

Kiro rushes towards the Kakuna and slams into the middle one. Sending it flying far into the sky, blasting off as if it was team Rocket.
Psyche uses confusion on the left Kakuna and sends it flying off after the other one. Its super effective.
The third kakuna shits itself and runs.
Kiro and Psyche gain exp.


Three angry beedrill attack.

Kiro unleashes a thunder shock on the middle beedrill. It flies up and manages to avoid a direct hit. It still takes quite some damage.
The beedrill on the left however gets caught up in the attack and gets most of the damage. The one one the right is hit with a lot of spark damage.
Psyche releases a cloud of sleeping powder.
The target beedrill manages to get away from it but the middle beedrill descends right into it and falls asleep.

Both beedrill that are awake use fury attack. One attacks Kiro five times but only manages to scratch him slightly each time.
The other attacks Psyche three times but she dodges them all.

Kiro unleashes another thunder shock on the left beedrill. It's a direct hit and the beedrill faints. Spark damage hits the sleeping beedrill.
Psyche unleashes a confusion attack upon the right beedrill. She slams it into a tree and knocks it out.
The remaining beedrill is still asleep.


"Now is the perfect chance to catch it!" Shelly comments.

"Beedrill seem to have a really bad physical defense. That quick attack seemed to hurt more than those thunder shocks."

Two rattata show up.
